OK, as a matter of full disclosure, I saw Willamette play once this year and I was unimpressed by the behavior of both their football team and their student body.  Having said that, I'm of the opinion that their coaching staff is being unfairly criticized for the play calling late in the game yesterday.  I'm not a fan of running reserves onto the field to go into victory formation.  Having your starters do it to run out the clock in a close game is one thing, asking your seldom used reserves to do it is an all together different thing.  The three/four deep reserves have been at practice and worked hard all season.  When they get in the game they should get a chance to run real plays.  If your first or second team defense can't stop my third or fourth team offense, it is shame on you rather than shame on me for letting my kids run a real play.

Such a rare occurrence on the NWC board I won't bury it yet.

Has the WU contingent ever noticed the port-a-potties we provide the visiting team on their side? Of course you have, Never been to WUville, do you do the same? It's laughable I see, because no one has gotten around to posting how you 'knocked the piss out of Lewis and Clark again.'

piodad,

A few years ago the Redlands fourth string freshman QB threw a 70 pass in a blowout game.  It made his dad very proud and Mike Maynard was not criticized.  Lighten up. :)

Playoff discussion:

The West Region has five conference champions who will be in:  Wisconsin-Whitewater, St. Thomas, Wartburg, Linfield and Cal Lutheran.

Bethel and Coe will likely also be in, with only one loss, to their conference champ.

All of these teams should win their last game.    Wisconsin-Whitewater, St. Thomas, Wartburg will all host a first round game.    Linfield or CLU will host the fourth game.   Who knows which will get it??     It could depend on who wins that 8th spot.

The 8th spot will be between Redlands and PLU.    If Willamette beats PLU, Redlands will get the 8th spot.   If PLU beats Willamette, then it is a toss-up; my guess is PLU would make it.

Of course, the NCAA has their own mind and my ideas are just food for discussion.

Don't forget that the MWC is in the West too, so you can add St. Norbert to that list of conference champions.

I'm sorry to hear about Mikey - never like to hear about a player getting hurt - especially season ending... :(

It was really interesting to see a coach from the opposing team go out on the field when Mikey went down.  The coach. of course, was his father!  I'm glad he got to score two touchdowns at his last game while his father was there.

At-large bids are given out nationally, not per region in order to fill out a bracket.  If you'll remember, the 'West' had a Texas school last year.

I had a real nightmare last night.  The Linfield campus was literally across the street from Willamette.  Bright and sunny on the Linfield side and dark imposing clouds like the mountain of doom above Willamette.  Being the curious fellow that I am, I decided to jog the Willamette campus clad in my purple and red shorts.  Somewhere along the line a Willamette prof gave me bum directions to the library and somehow I lost my Nike running shoes after running into a couple of Willamette students who looked like they had just finished a class on "Getting Criminals Off 101"....Next I found myself in one of those 100-1 student to prof ratio classes they have at Willamettte and I was trying to figure out how to get out of there.  In the meantime the same two desperados were eyeing my cool red and purple running shorts.   I finally, found the door and the two rubes followed me out. I finally faced those two and said, "Look you sick puppies, I am 58 years old and no Bearcats are going to mess with me."  They actully got the message and backed off, as up runs about 20 Wildcats dressed in purple and red track uniforms.  On the front of their tank tops was huge white initials "AG"....I'm totally mystified about what that meant.  So I head back to the Linfield campus still wondering where my Nike's went.  Then suddenly I see that somebody had fired bombed my car.  Is there an interpretation to this dream?   I certainly classify it as a nightmare and I testify that this dream is 95% true:)

[biased rant]
OK, everyone seems to have Coe in.  I've looked over their schedule and cannot see how their body of work is better than PLU's.  I'm not saying the Lutes are better.  I'd like that settled on the field.  But Coe chose to play two NAIA schools, and bad ones at that.  In this manner they get two wins, looks good on the record, and their opponents weakness does not negatively affect their own SOS.  PLU played one bad team (Hamline), granted they didn't win easily, and one apparently pretty good team (CLU) that will be in the playoffs.  They (PLUand Coe) each lost to their conference champs.  Coe should not be in ahead of PLU.
[end biased rant]
Now Willamette can make me look like an idiot by knocking off my Lutes this week. ;D

speedybigboy

Any thoughts on what results this coming week would help or hurt the Lutes chances of getting in?
(minus K for the first one that says Willamette beating PLU hurts the Lutes) :)
I think Linfield and CLU winning helps.
Not sure on Redlands but I'd think a loss can't hurt PLU.
Coe losing, however unlikely, would be a plus.
Bethel shouldn't matter since they slaughtered the only common opponent.

That is only within our region and as D-train pointed out, Pool C, is a national competition for open spots.
