I mis-spoke earlier with regard to concussions, etc. I did not mean for what I said to be misinterpreted as a poke at Welch. Concussions are extremely serious and I apologize for coming across any other way.  :-[
Hi Momma---I sat next to you at the LaVerne game.  Nice to see you on the board!

I think the Welch thing has been beaten to death.  As a Cat fan--we have much more important things to think about.  Enough said.

Just curious and not trying to be funny...How do the DI and DII teams pass up so many of these great players such as the ones on Linfield?  Boheme seems to have the size and ability.. Over the last 30 years of watching so much high school football I've seen a lot less talented guys go to DI and DII schools on football scholarsips.

Just insight into Aaron's situation.... he played at a HS that ran the wing T.... great HS offense but not one that is going to market a QB... (even though Locker came from a wing T offense they at least showcased his skiils)... secondly he was awkward for D1 schools... they all liked him at their camps (was quarterback of the camp numerous times) but he was 6'5" and 185 when he graduated from HS.... he was also an all league punter, and an all state safety.... he was one of the best receivers in the state at the time but couldn't throw to himself (chuckle)... so they all wanted him around but didn't know where they wanted to play him... even at Linfield they were unsure of where they wanted to play him... as a sophomore he caught 5-6 td passes... so he was a tweener....

all that being said... attending Linfield was the best decision he ever made.... he grew as a young man and a leader... the coaching staff has been patient and guided him in his growth as a young man... what is especially gratifying is to watch his humility (never any quotes that could be put up in a locker room, never derogatory comments about the other team, owning up when need be and having nothing but positive to say about his teammates)... with all the individual accolades the only thing that really matters is winning games and his teammates... he is and will be a better person in the long run for attending Linfield and playing at this level....

so while all this debate has been amusing it's time to put an end to it.... (but hey I'm just a "second stringer")  ;)

so in that vein.... it's all about CLU right now!!! OLINE Protect... DLINE Stop the run!!! Same formula every week for a victory!!!

See you all at the CATDOME!!!

In all seriousness though I'm bummed to see Sparky didn't make first team.  He may have been overshadowed my the incredible stats put up by Hedin but that is no excuse, in any other year he would have been a shoe-in for 1st team.  In my opinion (on the other hand, I know nothing about the other guys who got 1st team DL).

FarAway, my personal input is that Walter Robinson deserved that mention without a doubt. He's been our top pass rusher consistently all season, despite being put in a (often questionable) 3 down-lineman set. Man is a hard worker, and gets results. Big FF against PLU that put us back in the game.

I questioned Alvarado however. He's great against the run, there's no doubting that. But he was never that outstanding defensive force that I thought warranted First Team. On the year, 17 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Likely, Gonzalez got forgotten about due to the behemoth on the other side of the line. God damn. What is that guy doing after graduation?

'Cmon BearcatChatter... a good writer like yourself could have chosen a different phrase don't you think.  ???

Sorry, R & P, it was a slip up. Hedin is a heckuva good player, gosh darnit  ;D. Any notion as to what he's doing after graduation?

I was talking to Speck yesterday about this very thing. I asked about Terrell Malley, who has (IMO) D2 or possibly D1 athleticism, and he said it had a lot to do with the fact that Malley played for a subpar high school (Roosevelt, in Portland) and got overlooked by a bunch of big college coaches. He was a great student-athlete, and WU pounced on him early, selling him on the athletic/academic package.

Following the culmination of Linfield's season, the busiest time of the year for the coaches begin. I was astounded to hear how much effort goes into recruiting even at a D3 level.

The work is never over at this level.

Thanks for the mention. But you have to have exemplary stats—like Hedin's—to make 1st team. I mean, c'mon, hands down, this stud is legit!

Considering Sparky was in rotation and play limited to pretty much the first half, I'm proud of his accomplishments. Not to mention, missing most of Menlo's (except for the first defensive series, due to a concussion), and not playing Whitworth... #2 in sacks; #9 in TFL; #13 in D-line tackles; he did a great job and worthy of 2nd Team. Oddly enough though, he had pretty good stats last year too, and didn't even make honorable mention, hmmm?

It seems to me that Sparky has been a key to the defense improvement this year. With attention paid to Hedin by offensive coordinators  Sparky has made some big plays and the hits are always solid - which is fun for me.

He will be a large factor in the playoffs - qb pressure, pressure, pressure.

A look at the playoffs on D3...

Pat,

I'm not trying to pick a nit here, as you guys did an outstanding job on the team capsules, and that had to have been difficult to do so quickly, but Linfield also had a good run in the playoffs last year.

Wasn't Wartburg Pool A as well?

Again, good job. That's a lot of info to gather. I laughed at the comment about Benedictine.
