I was a little disappointed after reading about the 10 finalists for the 2010 Gagliardi Trophy and Aaron Boehme was not included. You can look at it here:  http://www.d3football.com/notables/2010/11/gagliardi-trophy-finalists
Does anyone know how he/Linfield ranked nationally according to stats?

Could be a case of Linfield not nominating him?  If not then I'm not sure why he wasn't a finalist.

Just made a Karma run!  Hope Linfield sto,ps on the Tommies and wins its way to the Stagg Bowl where I'll be with brownies in hand for the team members and supporters!!!  Just hope there won't be 20 some inches of snow like last year!!

He ranks 22nd in passing efficency.  Watt and Kyle, the quarterbacks nominated, rank 1st and 4th.

Rankings aside I think Boehme is a very good quarterback.

RedlandPurple,

Boehme compared quite well, but those four had more T-D passes and a higher % completion.    I have seen and heard Feaster (HSU) play and he is awesome.    Better than Boehme?   Close to being equal.    The other three had great stats, but don't know how tough their defensive opposition was.

Here were their team's records:
Feaster        -    HSU          8-2   No playoffs
McLaughlin   -   Lousiana   7-3   No playoffs
   Ray              -   Franklin      9-2   0-1 playoffs
   Watt            -   Trine          11-0  1-0 playoffs

   Boehme       -   Linfield       9-1   1-0 playoffs

Knowing who we beat, I am confident that Boehme ranks well with these other QBs.   A even bigger complaint though is that the one D-end nominated was not Hedin:

Hoffman (selected):  19 tackles, 2.1 per game for a loss and 8 sacks.

Hedin     49 solo tackles, 3.5 per game for loss and 21 sacks.

Hoffman is no doubt a very good player.    But, Hedin should be national defensive player of the year!    In the long list of outstanding Linfield defensive players, Hedin ranks with them.

Another example of eastern bias against the west coast?

Thanks to George, CatDad, badgerwarhawk, and wildcat11 for responding to my post. I gave you all +karma. Hedin definitely should have been on the list. That kid can just flat out play!

Olinemom, I gave you +karma too.  ;)

give me a break, there is no way linfields qb and de are not nominated unless there really is a west coast bias.look at the de numbers and find me 1 or 2 better de.the qb runs that show to perfection, but mabye only playing half his games(do to blow out) hurts.

St. Thomas vs. Linfield

Defense will win this game.   St. Thomas has been held under 30 points three times this year.  Linfield not once.    In fact, only WWW held Linfield below 30 points per game last year.

This year's Linfield defense is better than 2009.    Offense about the same.   So, the Wildcats should slow down St. Thomas more than the Tommies can slow down the potent Wildcat offense.    Linfield 28-21

Of course, this is all just talk.   The players and coaches will decide it on the field Saturday.

+k Thank you.

I do believe there is a negative west coast bias only because those east of the Rockies rarely see west coast teams and players.    And for each west coast team, there are 8 or 10 teams east of the Rockies.   Not a conspiracy theory, though.

I have Linfield in the pick'ems, so I'll be rooting for your guys. Good luck & safe travels!!

Before commenting about 'east coast bias' in the Gagliardi Trophy, you might want to find out if any Linfield players were even nominated. HERE'S the process. If the school doesn't nominate, they don't get consideration. Plus, this award is as much for off the field accomplishments as on the field success (read each finalists bio for that). Excellence in athletics isn't the only criteria. BTW, the SJU - J Club Board of Directors narrows the field to the final 10. Geographically, SJU is hardly east coast, JMO.

i don't think there's any doubt those players are great, but performance is only a third of the criteria for the award. they have to be a good academic student, and volunteer in the community to be considered.

cludad

thank you for the enlightening.i did not no the process for the award.

D O.C.

Just like to remind the DIII world of the Bill Russell Rule (University of San Francisco) and the Lew Alcindor Rule ( University of California Los Angeles) when east coast bias is denied. Would have been a John Wooden Rule if they could have pulled it off.

Quote
Next came the Bill Russell Rule, which forbids blocking a shot when the ball is on its downward course. Now there is the Lew Alcindor Rule. College basketball's rules makers decided last week that players may no longer "dunk" or "stuff" the ball by ramming it through the hoop from directly above.

The no-dunking rule was frankly aimed at Alcindor, the 7-ft. ¹⅜-in. U.C.L.A. sophomore who averaged 29 points a game this season while leading his team to a perfect 30-0 record and the N.C.A.A. championship. Lew does indeed dunk on occasion. But the bulk of his baskets come on tip-ins, lay-ups, jump shots and hook shots—all of which are still perfectly legal.
