Former Linfield grad Craig Howard is finalist for the SOU job.  Craig has been a highly successful high school coach in Florida for years...

Has SOU been accepted for a move to D2, is that what is making this job more attractive than in the past? I remember some talk about SOU considering disbanding football a while back.

I missed something. When did Howard coach at Nease?

SOU looks like they're going to get membership in the NAIA Frontier Conference, which would give SOU a stable schedule for the first time since the CFA disbanded.

So, in the interest of firing up some offseason discussion,* here's my "Way Too Early 2011 NWC Predictions That Will Absolutely Change Before Kickoff."

1. Linfield.  Champs until proven otherwise, though there are big shoes to fill at some key spots on offense (Boehme) and defense (Hedin).
2. Willamette.  The defense needs to be rebuilt, but the Bearcats have by far the friendliest schedule this year: six home games, including Linfield, PLU and Whitworth.  UWSP and HSU are also coming to Salem this year.
3. PLU.  The Lutes graduate eight offensive starters, but the defense will carry them pretty far.  I don't doubt the Lutes are looking at a post-2007-style meltdown.
4. L&C.  I think the Pios are going to break through this year: they bring back everybody and have a schedule that could give them a 6-0 start.  If they were playing PLU at home, I'd pick them third in a heartbeat.  But weird things happen at Sparks.
5. Whitworth.  "Brandon Martin is not walking through that door.  Adam Anderson is not walking through that door."
6. UPS.  I like Jeff Thomas and I think he'll get UPS turned around, but not this year.  Replacing Duncan White and finding a defense are the two biggest problems in Tacoma.
7. Pacific.  The Boxers showed me enough at the end of the season - playing each of their last four opponents into the fourth quarter - to believe that they'll get a win this year.  I'm just not sure where it'll come from.

*And ignoring an absolutely horrific basketball season.

LC is a stretch. Otherwise I can't complain too much with that. I'm curious to see if Whitworth goes back to the big play, vertical passing game now that Anderson is gone. A 2nd place finish wouldn't surprise me, a 5th place finish wouldn't surprise me...

2011 NWC football? CAN'T WAIT!

Linfield safeties are prying this is the case.  :)

Please tell me the 04 and 05 safeties are coming back!

I wouldn't mind seeing 30+ on the scoreboard again...or maybe Scharer can come back and put up 6 points for the Cats. As long as BE doesn't have any eligibility left I'm ok.

Fisher and Parish are both back for their 3rd year starting.  I think we'll be ok.

Yeah, it's old news at this point but when we take a looks at the numbers and honors of these Wildcats and when you look back they put up some staggering numbers.

Thanks, 11. If I'm not mistaken, Bret Elliott still holds the NCAA all-divisions record for single season TD passes.

Feels like Fisher has been at Linfield forever...too bad for the rest of the conference. Kid is legit.

Linfield Sports has posted up a video that I put together of the 2010 season.  This isn't part of the highlight DVD but it's a one off but I think you'll enjoy it!  :D

It's in the video player of the main page (for now).  www.linfield.edu/sports

Thanks 11. I never get tired reading "...old news..." like what you posted. I remember watching those guys play along with their teammates and it brings back great memories. The long pass from Elliott to Allen in '05 against Willamette is just one of many and I was at PLU in '06 when Scott made some incredible kicks. Plus karma for you.  :)

Go Cats! Make it 62 in '17!
