Can't wait to get out to the Catdome this fall. How are the cats looking at quarterback?

The Lutes don't believe they should be third in the NWC coaches' preseason poll, citing their 29th spot in the 2011 D3football.com preseason poll.

Lutes Ranked Among Nation's Best To Open 2011

The Bearcats were a distant 36tMh in the D3football.com poll.   Maybe the NWC coaches know something that the rest of us don't know  ??? . . . . or not   8-)

Perhaps they know (like some of us) that PLU is having to replace their starting QB, top rusher, and top 4 recievers (the 4th one was also their top rusher).....  Willamette, on the other hand returns a strong defense, a few QBs with experience, etc.....seems like an easy vote to cast! :)

@MC, are you questioning the judgment of the panel that picked the D3football.com 2011 preseason top 25 teams as it relates to the

NWC?   :o  I'm shocked!   :o   simply shocked!   :o

Ha!  maybe I was questioning your apparent difficulty figuring out why the coaches picked Willamette over PLU :) :) :)
Go Cats!

In all seriousness, I'm beginning to think there could be more parity and more "upsets" this year than the NWC has seen in a long time.

Definitely, I could see Pacific Lutheran and Lewis and Clark both upsetting Willamette.

...and Willamette, Pacific Lutheran, and possibly Lewis & Clark upsetting Linfield.

I'm interested in the Willamette vs. Portland State game on October 22, the Vikings are picked 8th in the Sporting News Preview issue. PSU will also be coming off a game versus Montana and will be at defending national champ Eastern Washington the week after Willamette.

I wonder when was the last time a NWC team played an opponent two divisions higher, and what the result was.

Oops, should have said the Vikings are picked 8th in the Big Sky Conference this upcoming season.

Actually, Portland State has a long history with the Northwest Conference.  After 1961, including Linfield's games already noted, the record is NWC 17 wins, PSC/PSU 7.  The question, though, was "when was the last time a NWC team played an opponent two divisions higher?"  It depends on how you define "two divisions."  PSU played a small college schedule for many years while the NWC was NAIA.  PSU joined NCAA in 1965 and NCAA Div II in 1981.  They went to Div I-AA in 1996.  The NWC was still NAIA until 1998(?).  However the difference in divisions is defined, the team by team records after 1961 and until 1982 are Lewis and Clark W-2 L-0; UPS W-8 L-6; Linfield W-7 L-1.

PSU took a big step up in 1982 and again in 1996, filling their plate with games from teams at a comparable level.  They did play Wisconsin Stevens Point in 1987; Cal Lutheran in 1988; and Western Oregon in 2008 with a record of W-3 L-0.

This information came from the PSU Media Guide.

Hey BCP-

What is it that makes you think so many upsets might be in the making this year, and that there's more parity. Seems to me that Willamette and Linfield are far and away the favorites, and that everyone else is playing for third. What do you see?

D O.C.

I'll handle this one BCP, you have a good Saturday night. People feel LINFIELD has to come back to the pack like 2006-2008.

Reload!

criswyly

Linfield has had some of it's best recruiting years ever over the last 2-3 years....so I guess the rest of the field has to be able to say the same thing in order to claim parity:)
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

Once again it appears that the Conference Championship will be played on the Bear Kitties field about the third week of the season!  Bearcat stadium will be rocking again this year just like two years ago as the biggest game of the year. Both teams will know the importance of this game and will be up for the game.
