D O.C.

No Two-A-Days...

So here's what I learned over the last months that I did not know...
1. Prostate cancer feeds off of testosterone.
2. Black men are more susceptible to prostate cancer. All men should be checked for prostate cancer.
3. The blood test for PSA, while the necessary tool, is not reliable in all people to indicate prostate cancer.
4. The nerves to regulate an erection run over the top of the prostate.
5. A 'radical prostatectomy' is surgical removal of the prostate.

I will have the robotic surgery August 23 at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. I was lucky to be taken on as a case study because my PSA was a low 2.4, but a digital exam ( yeah, get your jollys – five different people) and subsequent MRI showed significant cancer that must be limited to the prostate capsule and not allowed to get into the bladder or lymph nodes.
My flight back there, hospice stays and surgery are all paid for – by YOU, the tax payer - in the name of research. (Thank-you)

You are very welcome and good luck to you.

Good luck D.O.C.!

I am honored to help pay for research to fight prostate cancer.  The tests for prostate cancer and colon cancer are no picnics, but it is important that we have them done.  I've had doctors and nurses at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics checking me for years.  I'm of the belief that the results of not getting examed are far worse than any kind of embarrassment or discomfort the exams cause.

DO.C.:

Good lucK with your situation, and I sincerely hope that everything turns out ok. I am glad that at least some of my tax payer dollars are being used for a worthy cause.

I know it is not Linfield (Chapman is not ready to play them yet), but we do play Whitworth at home this year, and I would like to extend a personal invitation to you to attend, if you are around,
and I will give you the VIP tour.

I tried to PM you, but your email address came back.

Cheers.

D O.C. - Thoughts and prayers going out for you and your family, physicians, oncologists, etc in your battle against this insidious disease.  If you're at the NCI in Bethesda, you're in good hands.

Good to hear that our tax dollars are going toward something worthwhile!

God bless!

D.O.C.  Just wandered over here and discovered the bad news.  I am so sorry to hear about your recent challenge.  As you know, we are all too familiar, in my family, with the shock of getting a cancer diagnosis.  It rocks you to the core but we also know from experience that your attitude is one of the greatest weapons you have.  Cancer is a bitch but she can be taken down!   Surround yourself with the best doctors you can find, stay as positive as possible and fight the battles one at a time and you will win the war!!!  But most importantly, rely on the love and support of everyone around you!  That has great healing powers!  My thoughts and prayers are with you!   :-* :-* :-*

DOC we all wish you the best, even those of us who spend far more time lurking than posting.  Our prayers and +K for you, a good combination.

It must be getting closer to the start of the season when Wildcat 64 takes a break from running the Municipality of Anchorage to make his Wildcat voice heard.
