No Two-A-Days...

D.O.C., my best wishes go to you and your family.   At our age, anything can happen.   But, I know you are a fighter and it sounds like you have excellent doctors on it.

My prayers are for you.

Sincerely,

George

I know at least a couple of people here on the boards live in the Salem area.  If you do, please keep an eye out for Max Weischedel.  He's a defensive tackle for the Bearcats and went missing from the hotel room where he was staying earlier this week.

Max Weischedel's story was also in the StatesmanJournal -- Missing Willamette student's family seeks assistance

The players have reprted, Max Weischedel has been found safe, YEAH!, and the first games are two weeks from today. That means it's time for the annual NWC pick 'ems. Go to http://www.d3boards.com/index.php?topic=6535.435 and don't worry that it says 2009 pick 'em.

Prevoius winners:
2010 - wildcat 11
2009 - Proud Papa Joe and cawcdad
2008 - Blueneote
2007 - (509)Rat and pineconefan

Same rules as previous years

Prior to the first games of the season on September 3, predict the NWC final standings. These points will be added to the weekly pick points at the end of the regular season to determine the winner. 7 points will be awarded for  picking the correct league champ, 6 for second and so on to last place.

One point will be awarded for each correct non league game picked correctly and 2 points for each correct NWC game picked correctly. In addition there will be a West Region game of the week not involving NWC teams worth two points as well as a National Game. The picks must be made by 8 A.M. Pacific time on Saturday morning.

I will try to have the updated standings and following weeks games up by Sunday evening. You have between now and 7 A.M. on September 3 to get your final standing predictions in as well as the picks for the  first week's games which are-

NWC:
Simon Fraser at Pacific
#23 UW-Stevens Point at #37 (based on others receiveing votes) Willamette
Whitworth at Chapman

West Region game:
#4 North Central at #34 University of Redlands

National Game:
#10 Coe at #16 Hardin-Simmons

Anyone out there a Whitworth fan from the Spokane area?  I find it frustrating that the Spokane newpaper had articles every day this week about WSU, UofW and/or the Eastern Eagles but has yet to have a preview or article about the Whitworth Pirates FB team.

I think you'll find that's a common problem for just about everyone who follows Division III sports in the Pacific Northwest.  In Salem, the Statesman Journal has reporters dedicated to the Ducks and Beavers, but never sent anybody to a single Willamette home game.

But if you're looking for a preview of Whitworth and it's prospects in the NWC, you're in luck.  Go HERE and register for Kickoff.  Not only will you get a preview of Whitworth, you'll get a preview of every team the Pirates play this year.  And I'd be happy to vouch for the author's credibility. ;D

Whitworth_Fan:

Check the WW  athletic web site under football and you will see a short article.
Also, one must remember that most teams have only been on the field for a short period of time and the SID's have not been able to get all the info they need to do the press releases. In fact, some SID's are not employeed for the summer and may be just getting back to school.

Also, you should contact your SID and ask to be put on his email distribution list for all athletic press release including game summaries and stats. Most will gladly do it.

Welcome to the boards! Do you have a son playing football this year?

@Bearcat...I already registered and paid via paypal for the Kickoff preview that is due to come out on Tuesday...looking forward to it.  The Spokesman Review supposedly has a reporter whose bio states he covers Shock FB, Whitworth FB and Gonzaga Basketball...Shock FB and Gonzaga Bsk are both pretty slow right now, you'd think he'd have time to hit a Whitworth practice or two or at least do an interview with Coach Tully

@Dahlby...I saw the press release on the Whitworth athletic webpage...Yes, I have a freshman on the Whitworth team this year. Wondering if I need to get a ticket to So Cal for Labor Day weekend and when the team will know who makes the travel team.

dahlby

Most D3 teams limit the number of players on road trips that include a flight. Costs are very high.
If your son makes the travel team, send me an email directly and I will help with suggestions for places to stay and eat that won't require a second mortgage on your house. I hope he makes it, I would enjoy meeting you and giving you a tour of the Chapman facilities. As you know, Whitworth visits Chapman for both team's season opener on Saturday, September 3 at 7 PM.

(509)Rat

The only mandatory travel restrictions are in our NWC conference games. I'm sure WC11 has a better idea of the official number, I want to say it's like 52?

Anyways, Whitworth has always ponied up to fly 2-3 times a year and try to bring as many kids as they can afford. Most of the Cali trips were high 50's. And I believe the chartered flight to Texas was the biggest travel group at 60. Cali was basically the whole 1st and 2nd teams along with 10 or so kids who had special teams roles.

I know none of this is incredibly helpful since none of us know how many they'll take this year and where your kid is on the depth chart.

The staff has always been pretty good about getting travel info out to families if you ask about it though. Worth a shot if you ask me.

I'm not a 'rat fan, but welcome aboard WF. I gave you some karma just for posting. Good luck to your son.

Thanks everyone.  Hopefully he makes the travel team because he said that the team is flying down on Thursday, doing Disneyland on Friday and then playing Saturday night.  Disneyland will be fun for those that get to go.
