Am I the only one who's been watching all the HS football games on ESPN this weekend? Mostly because I need football and it's all I got until next Sat???

6 more days...

I've been watching the games also. This one in particular caught my eye:

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em? Harlem RB transfers to Lincoln County after 69-6 loss
9:47 am August 25, 2011, by Todd Holcomb

Harlem sophomore running back Mike McIntire rushed for a team-leading 60 yards in a 69-6 loss to Lincoln County last week. This week, McIntire transferred to Lincoln County, according to the Augusta Chronicle.

Campbell told the newspaper that McIntire is attending classes and awaiting a ruling by the Georgia High School Association on his eligibility.

Players are allowed to transfer during a sports season and become eligible. In 2010, defensive lineman Quinteze Williams went from Westlake to Sandy Creek just prior to the final regular season game and helped Sandy Creek win a Class AAA title. Williams, now a senior, has committed to Florida.

McIntire is a sophomore on the Harlem squad. He was out rushed by a freshman on the Lincoln County team. After the loss his parents enrolled him into the winning school thinking he will be on a better team. What ever happened to loyalty?

Anyone know how far in advance teams usually announce the travel squad?  I realize this isn't high school anymore and that family's probably aren't a high priority to the college football teams, but it seems like they'd like to give as much advance notice as possible for parents to make travel plans, etc.

Whitworth_Fan:
Just a little correction if I may. You're right about it not being high school anymore. However, we discovered families do matter and are an high priority to the team. When we visited Linfield to attend the games the coaches knew who we were and addressed us by our names. I can't say exactly when a team will post their travel roster, but we knew the possibility of our son playing was real and just went with it. He would usually let us know as soon as he found out (again this doesn't help you any) and we would then book our flights. When he became a starter it made it a lot easier for us. We could book flights and hotels way in advance. Just remember YOU DO MATTER!

I haven't caught any of the ESPN high school games this year but thats mostly because I've been getting my fix by attending local high school games and coaching my sons 3rd/4th grade team.

Looking forward to the d3 start this weekend.

It's likely different with different programs, but at Saint John's, they never posted travel squads until after practice on Friday.

When we traveled to PLU in 2000, I didn't know for sure I was going till the day we left  :o

Whitworth v Chapman Preview

Whitworth hasn't lost to Chapman...ever. I don't expect them to start now. I think Ronnie Thomas will take more carries away from Scott as the season wears on. My guess at QB is that Tully likes Peterson a little better than Hill if all things (throwing-wise) are equal, as he gets Joel Clark flashbacks watching Peterson run. As long as they don't platoon them...what a disaster that was a few years ago. The defense will be young which means you can expect the play calling to be a little more conservative (especially compared to the 06-07 teams). Should be fun watching the D improve throughout the season.

Gotta say the team I'm rooting for in the NWC is Pacific. I'm drawn to them for some reason, and they're the underdog.

Some interesting facts from Pacific's "Weekly Notebook"

"BOXER BYTES
• Pacific returns for 2011 with big numbers once again.  The Boxers roster 137 players entering week one, which includes a total of 55 returners from the inaugural season.  Of those 55 returners, 18 are returning regular starters."

"HAWAII TIES: Not surprisingly, the Pacific roster has quite a Hawaii flavor to it.  A total of 32 players on the team hail from the Islands, right in line with the over 25 percent of students from Hawaii present in Pacific's undergraduate student body.  Of those 32 players, 15 are new recruits to the Pacific program."

D O.C.

Must be the good weather Duffman.

I just came on to pick my player to watch in 2011.  I expect Sparky to make up big time, but I'm going with Buddy Saxon.

Good article in the Willamette Collegian this week breaking down the Bearcat Offense and Defense:

"Keith's take: No. 23 UW-Stevens Point at Willamette. The Bearcats scored 33 unanswered in last season's 33-14 season-opening win in Wisconsin, partially because the Pointers had no answer for Willamette's Fly offense. UW-SP lost star wide receivers Jared Jenkins and Anthony Aker, and they travel to Oregon. They're the ranked team, but I'm not sure they should be expected to win. And yet, I doubt there's another blowout here, because defenses tend to perform much better after players and coaches have had a look at a specialty offense."

As Keith predicts, it could be a "surprisingly close game."
