Any update on Norm Goss?

While many of us Old Timers have known Norm Goss (and his contributions to Linfield) for many decades, more recent members of the Linfield family may not. At the risk of messing up a detail or two, my recollection is that he graduated from Linfield in 1946 and earned a masters from Linfield in the early 1950s. He became an optometrist in McMinnville and has been running Linfield and Mac High scoreboards for more than 40 years. Norm was a pilot and for many years flew Ad Rutschman and other coaches on recruiting trips. He also flew to many long-distance games. Once he waited well into the early morning hours to fly an injured player home after a game at Humbolt State in California.

Some folks may not know he is married to former Education professor Dr. Phyllis Martin. There's cute story about them. While they both graduated from Linfield in 1946, they had run against each other for Student Body president. Each married anothers, lost their spouses, and late in life they got married. Norm won the presidential contest but notes that it was because Phyllis dropped out to assist her husband who had been wounded in WWII. They're both legends in the Linfield family and our prayers are with them.

Fowles has always been the prohibitive favorite, and I'll eat my hat if it's anybody but him

You don't know how disappointed I am right now

To be sure, I'd have provided pictures.  Fortunately, my predictions aren't *always* wrong.

My writeup from Coach Fowles's first press conference.

Sounds like he may be open to other offensive schemes when hiring a new Offensive Coordinator. Maybe a hybrid of the Fly and ??? Should be interesting......

A couple other interesting tidbits from the Statesman-Journal, this time on recruiting:

Brenden Shaffer (West Salem) is deciding between Western Oregon and Linfield
Kyle Moore (LB/South Salem) is considering "some small colleges"
Pedro Sandoval (FB/Woodburn) is considering Montana State, Western Oregon, Willamette, and some California JCs.

Dr. Phyllis Martin's son is named Dean Martin.  Haven't heard anything about him lately but he attended Linfield in the early 70"s....If anyone knows his whereabouts, I'd like to know.
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

To all my fellow posters.

Jerri Lynn Horning March 24, 1952-February 6, 2012

My wife Jerri Horning passed away at 8:54 on February 6 after a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. I was laying next to her in bed with our son and daughter at her side. Jerri's mom and dad were here along with her sister. Our dear friends from San Diego were with us also.

We had been married for 38 1/2 years during which time we became a part of the Wildcat family while attending the games at Maxwell Field to watch our son play. Jerri enjoyed attending the games and we both fell in love with Linfield. Our times spent in Oregon were very special and brought us both a lot of happiness.
