Geez, D O.C., instead of spending all your money in Vegas (as worthy a cause as that might be), or trekking to Cleveland, you should make a contribution to the GFU kickoff campaign to bring football back sooner than 2014.  Right now the Bruins have reached 65 percent of their $7,200,000 goal -- with a substantial boost from your anticipated earnings/winnings, you can help WC11 get over his disappointment at the delay in bringing football back to Newburg and solve the Linfield scheduling problem at the same time!   ;)

Making a contribution for the good of the conference and Linfield would be the Wildcat EMAL thing to do.  ;)

River...all my FU money is on a Toyota here at NASCAR.

...it's just not my problem.  Willamette was suppose to be playing in Newberg in 2013 the weekend before Linfield.  It's an NWC problem.  I've bitched about it enough and I'm done with it.  It could be worse...Linfield could have been 4 and 6 last season.

Are you saying Linfield @ CWRU in 2013?  What date?

That's my assumption.... but who knows....you sometimes need an Interplanetary Coding Device to figure it out.  ;)

No contracts to my knowledge.
Will it happen? It should.

I'm bicycling across the country and today reached Brawley, California on the way to Florida.  In the local newspaper there was an article about the recent track meet between Brawley and Yuma high schools which was won by Brawley High School.  The headline was "Wildcats defeat Criminals."  Ah, those Wildcats.  They don't shirk from any challenge.  :)

This got me to wondering about other "unusual" team names.  The Richland, Washington high school teams are "Bombers."  Any others?

QuoteThe school was established in 1909, when Arizona Territory taxpayers voted to organize a union district from several elementary districts. In September of that year, Yuma Union High School began with four teachers in three rooms near the corner of Main and Third Streets. At the end of the first year, twelve seniors graduated. Yuma High's distinctive mascot came when the original school building was destroyed by fire in 1910. The school then used the Yuma Territorial Prison, which had been closed, for the next three years. Classes were held in the cellblocks, and assemblies took place in the prison hospital.

In 1912, the city of Yuma notified the school that the prison was needed as a city jail. The school board carried through a bond election to build a new school, at 400 South 6th Avenue (where the current campus is today). In 1914, school began in the newly constructed "Main" building. That same year, the Yuma football team traveled to Phoenix Union High School to play the Coyotes. Yuma High won the game (and the consensus state championship), and the angry Phoenix Union fans dubbed the Yuma High players the Criminals. At first, this was a fighting word to the school community, but by 1917, it had stuck, and the name was officially adopted by the school board. Yuma Union thus became the only high school in the US to use the mascot; it is also the only high school in the United States whose mascot is copyrighted.[3] References are sprinkled throughout; the mascot wears a blue-and-white prison uniform, the gate to the school's sports fields includes bars from the old prison,[4] and the school's "Crim-wear" shop sells themed apparel.

In 1958, the then-main gymnasium burned down.

More recent buildings on campus include the research building, union building, technology building, and the Snider Auditorium.

Off the top of my head is the Stagg High School (of Stockton) Delta Kings and Bret Harte High School (Angels Camp) Bullfrogs.
