Linfield Expected to Win NWC Title in Football

The Coaches' preseason poll was not quite unanimous.  PLU came in second without a first place vote, while Whitworth came in third with one first place vote.  Understandable, but still a bit jarring to see Pacific, which restarted football recently, to come in ahead of last place but established program Puget Sound and its 0-9 2011 record.

River,

Coaches cannot vote for their own team.  Looks like Linfield's 1st place vote went to Whitworth.

(First-place votes in parenthesis. Points awarded on 7-5-4-3-2-1 basis. Coaches cannot vote for their own team)

IMO, I think L&C is overvalued and Willamette is undervalued in the poll.  Interesting to see what the coaches think.

Looks to me like they voted more or less on last years final records except for Whitworth which clearly benefited from Coach Smith's first place vote.  As for L&C vs. Willamette---Lewis and Clark lost some pretty major players but still has their QB--Willamette has a new head coach, a new starting QB and is coming off a pretty poor season.  They may be undervalued but it's hard to know what they will look like this year.  I think I would have ranked the conference almost identically to the way the coached did though I may have switched PLU and Whitworth just based on how they played Linfield last season......

Unless you know something I don't, Brian Widing is back for his senior season and will be the starting QB for the Bearcats this year.  Also, according to the Willamette athletics Facebook page, Terrell Malley is back with the team as well after taking last year off.

BTW, I am now living in St. Louis and hope to get to the Washington U and UWW game on September 9th.  I haven't seen Wash U's stadium, but there campus is first class.

Aug 31 8:30 PM might be a better time!!  ;)

Far be it from my busy no-computer-for-three-months time schedule to see what scholarship Menlo picked up this year. Will they waste time on the fly? Did they get a lot better in the DB?
The game is at home but for a first game there are many questions. I say run it on 'em 60 times and see what they can stop. The defense can then stop the fledgling Oak offense. Take our field goals. Take the W.

Willamette does have a "new" head coach, but he's been part of the coaching staff for 16 years and most of the other coaches are back, too.   There is a new Offensive Coordinator -- will be interesting to see what he brings to the mix.   I'm glad Terrell Malley decided to play football, again.    I also heard that Juan Alvarez is back -- thought he graduated, but he has one more year.   Looking forward to the start of the season.   Might have to go watch Menlo @ Linfield because I'm not flying to Texas for a football game.
