Interesting article on the ETBU website previewing their Friday game against Willamette, with a video interview with ETBU Tiger coach Mark Sartain, who identifies what he thinks the Tigers need to do to win against the Bearcats.

Wildcat11,just saw your game preview for the clu game...... damn your good.i think your spot on .i'll be honest with you and think the cats also have a slight edge, but game could go clu's way with a break.i like the homefield and the temps in the mid 90's for any advantage we might have.listening to last weeks game clu better tighten up its pass D or inns could be in for a nice game, the vibe for me on this game just doesnt feel right, but ive been wrong a few times before. ;D

Quotes in Around the West from the competing coaches on the upcoming game:

"'The past wins we have enjoyed vs. CLU is water under the bridge,'" Linfield coach Joe Smith said, however. "'It means nothing. We are fairly evenly matched and the team that executes at the highest level, for the longest time, will win.'"
. . . .
"A win Saturday would help the Kingsmen's national profile.

"'If we truly want to compete at national level, we have to compete with Linfield and have to beat Linfield,'" [Coach Ben] McEnroe said. "'They are a measuring stick. We've got to find a way to win it now.'"

"Smith said he knows his team's hands will be full with the familiar foe.

"'Cal Lutheran is a tremendous football team,'" Smith said. "'From having played the best teams around the country the past decade, I believe Cal Lutheran is a top 10 caliber team most every season. They are very fast and athletic, and they are very well coached.'"

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to make it Blue.  As part of the game crew at McCulloch Stadium this year (running the play clock :o), I have to be there early to meet with the officials.  I'll be looking for you at halftime, though.

Well, the sports commentator came close.  He just needed to put the em-PHAS-sis on the second syl-LAB-ell.

You know where that came from, don't you?  Willamette was on College Bowl.  Those of us of a certain age will remember the show.  The Willamette team coach corrected the host's pronounciation by saying "Willamette, as in damn it."  (That's a very close paraphrase).  I don't know how the administration received that one but the students thought it was great and it has gone down in WU lore.  Willamette lost to DePauw University which went on to be a five time winner.
