Linfield doesn't have individual stars...they have a TEAM OF UNIFIED PLAYERS WITH ONE GOAL.

Olinemom

and that goal had better be to come to Salem to win it and get the best brownies around!!!  It's been far too long since you'all have been here and since I visited there.  What a fantastic Homecoming win the Cats turned in!!  I'm doing another trip this weekend:  heading up north to UW-Whitewater at the Perk for their Homecoming game.  Hope it isn't going to snow.  I have to drive from Milwaukee down to Whitewater. If it's half as fun as when I was in McMinnville, I'll be happy.  You guys were the best hosts ( and the the Cocos were the greatest!!!) and I had such a good time. Seeing Hardin-Simmons getting crushed was neat as well! I could get used to living in Oregon, that's for sure.
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

Onlinemom...appreciate the sentiments, but only two teams have been getting to Salem, VA.
Say hello to 413

I've got nothing but respect for Coach Buckley and the program he's building in Forest Grove.  Having seen both teams this year, I think Pacific vs. L&C is going to be a really interesting, competitive game - especially with the Boxers having two weeks to prepare.  While we're talking about Pacific, be sure to check out this cool story.

Congrats to Mickey Inns for getting NWC Student Athlete of the Week! But wait, let's compare numbers...

Mickey Inns: 261, 5TDs, 71.9 completion percentage.
Josh Dean: 359 Yards, 5TDs (to break the Willamette single season record) 77.8 completion percentage. (He also sat out the last drive)

Granted, WU was playing L&C's abysmal defense, and Linfield was up against the much more compentent Whitworth. But before you Wildcats go yapping on about Linfield's more "balanced attack," noted that WU racked up 300+ yards on the ground (shout out to Dylan Jones)

My conclusion? SID's are getting tired of giving Dean the NWC Honors every week. Gotta make it fair for everyone I guess!

Bluenote, if you're insinuating that Willamette is not a team of Unified players with one goal simply because they have players who deliver outstanding performances, than you really don't understand football very well. Every play made when the Bearcats are on the field is for the good of the team, and to complete the goals they set out to accomplish at the beginning of the season.

But we can go on and on about this on the message boards. The real play will be settled on the field. One game at a time. Bearcat Pride.

I think you are right that they don't like to keep giving it to the same guy (I think it is funny that they also list several "honorable mention" guys each week but that's in line with the bloated all conference team). That being said, while Dean (per your post) sat out the last series, Mickey was pulled from the game with about 8 minutes left in the 3rd Quarter.  He threw the ball 13 times less than Dean, which at a 71.9 % completion rate, would be 9 more completions which would be 3 less than Dean completed....Given his average per completion this would come out to about 363 yards total for the game.  And since he had 5 TDs in 2 1/2 quarters we should probably add a couple more of those as well (I think it would be 8 total).....so.....yeah---I'm saying Mickey had a comparable performance against, in your words, "a more competent" oponent.  So, even with the SID's habit of spreading the love, I'd say Mickey earned this one. :)

Oh and Mickey had no INTs vs. Dean's 1.....(we can let that cancel out the rushing TD Dean had).
Go Cats!

Very Junior heavy team right now...which I would expect from a team in their 3rd year back.

Starting 10 juniors on defense and 8 on offense (plus one senior).  I expect 2013 to be a pivotal year for their program but the issue is that a large bulk of the upper tier of the conference (PLU, Whitworth, Linfield) are bringing back a significant amount of their players with starting experience in 2013.

This may sound silly but I don't think you'll really know where they're going as a program until 2014.

Hey 11, I wanted to get your take on George Fox since Pacific was brought up a few posts ago. With the Bruins scheduled to enter the fray in 2014, are they facing a larger challenge than the Boxers in fielding a competitive team? Pacific gave up football a couple decades later than George Fox, so it would appear the Boxers have a greater footprint with alumni and the public in the area. Having said that, do you see any advantages George Fox may have over Pacific?

Believe me...with Linfield having 4 National Championships and another couple national runners up, 57 winning seasons, plus how many recent NWC Championships under our belt?....I know football and Linfield's tradition very well. You better focus on PLU.

That's a great question.  They made a great first step in hiring Chris Casey.  He'll be a very hard worker and should build a solid base for GFU football.  Like Pacific, they seem committed.  Not crazy about having an off campus facility (that's never a great idea, IMO). I don't know how that will effect Pacific, Linfield, Willamette, but it should make the NWC even stronger and deeper.  Rather exciting to have such a high concentration of teams in Oregon all within 30-60 minutes.

Ah, the silly season begins.  Thanks to Blue for kicking it off.
