Can you guys come up with one of the Occidental warmers for MonroviaCat? He's so looking forward to this game and I want him to be comfortable.
Thanks DOC, but I got my Parka and other cold weather gear out this week since we dropped into the 70s for a few days this week.  That stuff should work in Oregon, right?  If not I'll just have to watch the game from one of the computer labs on campus  ;)  I am looking forward to the game though--where will I find some familiar faces prior to the game?
Go Cats!

Past the baseball and soccer fields. Look for a real bus. Oh! and port-a-potty.

Ok TDT is packed for Portland.  Looking forward to seeing the rivalry game on Saturday.  Word is that if Linfield loses WC11 and GHC will be buying me brews all night long at The Deluxe...Hope the blue Longie container makes the trip South from the Harbor.

What time does the tailgating get started?

What are the local PDXers favorite brewery/tour, etc. (preferably downtown)?  Powell's, Voodoo, what else should I have on the agenda?  Any good sports bars to saddle up to for Game 2 of the World Series and the Vikings/Bucs game??

I'll be sporting red on Saturday.  Just remember 'Cats, 3-0...
Chasing MILFs since '82...

Tuxguy

blue,
Don't forget Mary's Club just off burnside. You might want to .....
Pick-um up late and drop-um off early, It is TDT after all. ;)
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

TDT,
Im sure we can find some Cat gear for your sorry A$$ to wear.  Red, SJU stuff just wont cut it.  Tailgating starts around 8AM on the corner with straight shots of Jose, then on to big blue, or you can head over to the other corner for some jello shots,  Its your call sis.

Got my biz in order, so will be heading south.  Send me a TM

See you at the Catdome

Safe Travels

Deschutes and Henry's are both close to Powell's and would be great spots for the games. Bridgeport ad Rogue are a few blocks further, but great and might have more in the way of a tour (not sure)?  Kells is pretty fun too (near Voodoo - and the Big A$$ Sandwich cart).  Enjoy Portland while it's dry tonight.  Skip Mary's Club.

0-3 is correct. Shouldn't you be more concerned with St. Thomas 1-1?

TDT, I reiterate I'm not going to be there but I'll let Bluenote represent.

Dang it...

During the initial CI press conference announcing the return of football, the president commented he would like to see the Coyotes play Linfield. But with George Fox coming on the schedule, and the NAIA status of CI, it may be unlikely. Maybe someday the Coyotes will return to the NWC, I'm no expert on these matters. It would be fun seeing Linfield play CI, the Cats had a series with Eastern Oregon several years ago.

Having a 40-year perspective on the NWC and knowing some of the parties involved (but having no specifc inside information) I suspect that preliminary "what-if" inquiries to the NWC by C of I were rebuffed. If so, their only other reasonable option was likely the NAIA and the Frontier Conference.

OldCatProf,

Why do say that?    I know the NWC twice turned down Eastern Oregon, a mistake in my opinion.   But, that was apparently because EOU is a public college.

Don't read too much into this.  They are already an NAIA school.  We focus on football here (obviously), but there are many more factors in these situations.  They've all but done away with dual-affiliation, so all sports would likely have to move to D-3 and the NWC.

I don't think the EOU choice was a mistake.  It would have made some sense for football only (like Menlo), but they wanted into the conference for all sports.

I wonder if Menlo gets into the Frontier now?  That's been huge for SOU.

As a retired academic from a PAC-12 school (but also formerly a Linfield prof) I've witnessed a lot of academic snobbery in conference affiliations over the years. Witness Boise State's attempts to move up to a more prestigious conference. Presidents of colleges and universities want to be affiliated with similar institutions and don't want their academic reputations sullied by admitting (in their view) an unworthy member. The Presidents often (nearly always?) have the vote that determines who gets to join their "exclusive club."

In the case of Eastern Oregon I suspect the rationale for the rejection was "lack of fit" related to the very different natures of public vs. private institutions...not an unreasonable position at the D3 level. On the other hand, I suspect that if there had been unofficial inquiries into NWC affiliation by CofI that any lack of interest might have involved lack of "academic fit." All is speculation on my part...but a reasonable speculation, I believe.

Longterm, I also think it reasonable speculation that C of I will be a member of the NWC.

I happened to have a Linfield media guide nearby, and checked the Linfield vs. C of I series. Cats lead 28-15, with the last Coyotes' win coming in 1955. Interesting to note that C of I victory occurred in the last time Linfield had a losing season. The last game of that 3-6 1955 season was a 29-0 blanking of Willamette.
