Wonder if R.C. Owens was on that team.

QuoteRaleigh Climon Owens (November 12, 1934 – June 17, 2012) was a former professional American football wide receiver from 1957 through 1964. Owens graduated from Santa Monica High School in Santa Monica, California, and attended the College of Idaho (where his roommate and teammate was Elgin Baylor). He played amateur basketball with the Seattle-based Buchan Bakers the year after their national championship.    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Growing up in the Bay area I was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers and I still am. As a kid playing football in the local parks of Alameda I wanted to be R.C. Owens. His "Alley Oop" catches in the end zone always amazed me.  :D

I gave you plus K D O. C. for bringing back that memory to me.  :)

Part of the 49ers "alphabet backfield" ... R.C. Owens, J. D. Smith, C.R. Roberts and Y.A. Tittle.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

As a retired academic from a PAC-12 school (but also formerly a Linfield prof) I've witnessed a lot of academic snobbery in conference affiliations over the years. Witness Boise State's attempts to move up to a more prestigious conference. Presidents of colleges and universities want to be affiliated with similar institutions and don't want their academic reputations sullied by admitting (in their view) an unworthy member. The Presidents often (nearly always?) have the vote that determines who gets to join their "exclusive club."

In the case of Eastern Oregon I suspect the rationale for the rejection was "lack of fit" related to the very different natures of public vs. private institutions...not an unreasonable position at the D3 level. On the other hand, I suspect that if there had been unofficial inquiries into NWC affiliation by CofI that any lack of interest might have involved lack of "academic fit." All is speculation on my part...but a reasonable speculation, I believe.

Longterm, I also think it reasonable speculation that C of I will be a member of the NWC.

I don't think that'll be a problem for Linfield, considering that it admits 75% of its applicants.

I don't smite, OB, you're safe with me.

I think the LINFIELD coaching staff wins tomorrows game.

OldCatProf

It's good to know there is no academic snobbery between the SCIAC and the NWC.  ;D

The remaining 25% wind up at CLU or one of the WIAC schools.

I think Whitewater admits 135% of its applicants.

CLU only admits 73% of its applicants, but I'd bet 100% of applicants who play football.
