RE: Wildcatville blog

Mike Riley is quoted in a way that seems to imply the that the Cats played Cal Lutheran in the NAIA semi-finals in 1982. In fact the only time the Cats played CLU prior to the recent string of "before and after" games was in 1977 or 1978...in Thousand Oaks. Both D.OC and I were there. Unfortunately, we lost that game after QB Pat Silva got his bell rung late in the game and no one on the Linfield bench noticed. Later offensive players noted that for several series thereafter Pat called several non-existent plays/formations which stopped the offense. CLU staged a great comeback and won the game when our last second field goal attempt (52 yards) fell short.

Also, if I read the end of the blog correctly, the blogger appears to be correcting the story to say that Rutschman played in 1950 and 1951. The story, however, is correct as written.

Strange to see how The Streak doesn't garner the recognition one would think, even including the fact Linfield isn't a D1 university. Not sure how many D3 football fans outside the northwest realize how far ahead Linfield is of any other school for consecutive winning seasons. Also, not even the New York Yankees or LA Lakers have been able to approach this ongoing record.

The lineage and history of Linfield College football is reflected in the current head coach, Joseph Smith.
Smith played for Ad Rutschman(and Ed Langsdorf), Rutschman played for Paul Durham, and Durham played for Henry Lever in the mid 1930s. I'm struggling to think of another program at any level with that type of connection over such a long time span, including Notre Dame.

Very astute post Steel Curtain. I totally agree. Linfield has a long history of excellence and they instill that in their players. They have learned the secret of success. Take something that works and build upon it. Gave you plus k.  ;)

The Wildcats did play CLU on Nov 20th 1982 in the semi at the catdome. I believe the cats won 20-7

If Menlo defeats PLU.....................
Won't happen

No way should it happen, but what would that do to the lutes playoff hopes if it did.

Theoretically--it should not matter.  I think past history would suggest it does.....

I think Menlo will be a hard team to beat at their place, but I think PLU will pull it out. They have a lot more to play for.

Rumpelstiltswede...where in the Hades you been?

How are we supposed to dump of DIII gear when you disappear?

I'm headed over Atherton tomorrow to see the Lute - Oaks game. I have seen PLU against Redlands and Menlo against Wesley. Menlo and Redlands are comparable. Wesley played Menlo at the Oaks homecoming and the PLU will be playing on senior day. Both emotional days for the Oaks. I felt PLU is as good as Wesley and will be more up as they have much more to play for, will be playing in the same time zone and have a shorter flight.

I CAN make it but I am spoiled and only travel in Escalades nowadays.

I also think if we have to go through the nolutes then the solutes at home, I will save my social security pittance for an exotic game.

Important announcement--I'm stuck in a continuing education course today and will be trying to watch the game on my phone---As such, don't expect to see me posting much today!  :)  Blue--I'll text you if the phone video thing doesn't work out so you can keep me posted but I'm hoping I won't require that service :)
