ADvantage 'Catdome ‘Cats Win!!! Linfield finds a way in 27-24 1st round playoff win over PLU.

Nice write-up, 11.  Fun to catch up with you briefly (Coco, GHC, and others as well).

Of course I caught the Coach Westering quote right away.  Frosty used that one a few times when I was there as well.  At best, it’s half-true motivational locker room spin that should have stayed there.  While it might reflect some of the trajectory of the second half, I don't think they realize how much that comes across as a slight to the other team and ignores the overall contest.  I think he should have said to the press, “they forced us into too many mistakes and they capitalized as good teams do.  Our comeback effort fell just short.”  That’s the high road and more accurate anyway... but maybe he's looking to motivate and recruit vs. caring what Linfield has on the locker room walls next Sept.

No, PLU didn’t simply run out of time.  They ran out of timeouts because they didn’t manage them well (never have).  They didn’t protect the ball or the QB well enough to win.  They weren’t able to punch it into the endzone with 1st and goal from the 2 with something like your Bell-hammer set (settling for 3 instead of grabbing a lead in the 3rd quarter).  They didn’t have a second play ready during the 2-minute drill.  Etc.  The players and coaching staff will see those things on film, but will also see lots and lots of positives.

Linfield did just enough to win – mostly on defense with pressure up front and ball-hawking.  As you all learned vs. Whitworth in ‘06, a lead in first downs and total yards can very quickly be erased with a few turnovers or key sacks.  I think you make a nice point about the contribution of the ‘Cat kicking game as well (ask your nearest Duck fan about clutch field goals).

I really like the look of the Lutes for the next two years – tons of sophs and juniors on the field Saturday.  It’s great to see them back in the fold and putting a solid season together.  Combined with an 8-1 mark in 2010, it seems like we are building back up and ready to challenge anyone.  But for now: Go Linfield. (...and get back to work and out there recruiting, Lutes!)

LOL. Well, you guys are certainly entertaining.

You'd have to be a really bad bookie to establish a two loss North Central team lucky to be the AQ in their conference over an undefeated team that has been in the top 5 all year.

Easily a 3 point home advantage, with the visiting team travelling across the country for the second consecutive week - a new experience for the NCC football program. and, NCC has never played well in the 2nd round. I'd say Linfield should be an 8 point favorite.

here is what i think about sat game, ncc o line is good not great but they get the job done. The cats should be able to keep the running game in check because you have Lbers playing lb not converted wr as CLU did.I think your blitz packages will get to the qb a few times .their qb throws a good ball but you guys play much better coverage (zone) than CLus press man (that we kept getting burnt on. Ncc d is legit, they play a lot faster than i thought they would and really hit .their dbs cover well (played all zone i believe)and d line can pressure without having to blitz.I think the cats oline will get the job done with minimal sacks. The cats will have to generate some kind of running game to keep them honest,CLU ran best out of the spread and had zero luck with a i set.(i dont even know if the cats have a full back).weather is not a problem because you both play in crappy climates . i will take ths cats in a rather low scoring game.P.S. cant use the CLU game as a barometer,CLU was a much better team early in the season.

Here's my thoughts---  Either team can win.  It may be close or it could be a blow out.  Probably the team that has the least turnovers, penalties and limits the other team from scoring will end up winning.  Also, scoring points is important.... ;)
