My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Coach Phil Rombach had an unwanted guest in his office this AM as an invading squirrel was waiting for him.  Nice catch and release by Coach Rombach.

Many of the local Wildcat faithful already know the following, but this note is for those locals who may not know and those supporting the Cats from far away.

A faithful CatDome supporter/contributor/alum/fan and all-around good guy is very ill and in ICU in a Portland hospital. The oldtimers among us know Steve Davis as the Wildcat kicker circa 1970-72 or so. For decades he has contributed his efforts, skills and resources to a variety of athletic related projects around the campus. Few alums as been as actively involved and vocal in support of Linfield as Steve. He has been a personal friend for decades.

Steve recently went into the hospital for one issue, and since then, two other serious issues have arisen. Please keep Steve in your thoughts and prayers as he battles this tri-fecta of medical problems. His condition is very serious.

Ball is your court OldCatOrof. You can make Steve happier by doing your part to come out of Abilene with a win and everyone healthy.

WU has 500 wins! Who knows how many against LINFIELD in the last two centuries?

I have a cousin that plays football, O line, spoke with his mom but she doesn't know where he wants to attend school. The kid's got good grades with some tough classes like college calculus. Hopefully they will be checking out Linfield. :)

Forgot to mention he is 6'4" and 350 :) :)

From WC11's pick 'em blog:

"Willamette over Sewanee (at Willamette): Last season Sewanee's triple option attack game Willamette fits in a closer than I thought it would be game.  That triple option is the only thing that is going to keep this game close.  If it sputters then Willamette is going to blow them out and crack the top 25.

(509)Rat Says Willamette: So Willamette is good...I don't think the Bearkittens will have nearly as much trouble with the Tigers as they did last year. "

My recollection from last year was that the Bearcats were clueless on how to stop the triple option run by a disciplined Sewanee offense.  Even the Sewanee play-by-play broadcasters seemed a bit surprised as the Bearcats were reputed to have a good defense.  As pointed out in the around the nation broadcast, the triple option is used by teams that can't compete against other teams in recruiting  big offensive lineman and so go after smaller, but more mobile linemen, who are great for the more deliberate option offense.  Because the option tends to be ball control, it can also keep the other team's offense off the field.   Even so, if the Bearcats can use their big play run and pass offense to effect, they can win even if Sewanee has more time of possession.  (And WU plays at home this time.   Maybe the Sewanee footballers might want to check out the Ram Pub (http://www.theram.com/oregon/salem.html) and some of that good tasting Big Horn beer the night before).)
