CLU had a giant on their O-Line.......something like 6" 8" and weighed about 475 lbs. #78   :o

That's Andrew Gessler and he weighs around 330 lbs.

I think at least Case has free streaming video.

Not sure who would ever pay to watch them play.  Watching the Case Vs. Oberlin game and they scored 2 points against a lousy team was frightening.  As I said before a score of 80 to 0 vs. the Cats would not surprise me.

Two things:
1. They haven't been this bad in the streaming video era.
2. Take a look at Case's roster for a second and learn a bit about the school before you throw stones. It's a major research institution with players from all over.

Good points, Pat - especially #2.  Coach Smith would be wise to keep the score a bit closer than 80-0.  Afterall, he wants his players to find jobs working for UAA grads in the future.  ;)

....he looked a lot bigger to me. Maybe 435 lbs. I mean the guy was a good player....I just haven't ever seen any body that big before on a DIII Team.

Pat,

Thanks for setting me straight.  I was aware that Case was a great academic institution and really knew nothing about their football program except till the past 2 years they've had some great teams and an excellent record.

I haven't noticed any stones being thrown at the school. Any verbal rocks in the air have been aimed at the football team...a different matter altogether. Frankly, why would the fact that Case Western is a major research institution (and it is) have any impact on whether or not one wants to watch its football team? I believe it's great that major research universities such as Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins, University of Chicago, etc. have adopted D3 values (and I think all universities should) but I see no reason why that should color how one evaluates their football (or any other) teams.

I think the point was more about the geographic spread of the parents (and alumni).  "...with players from all over." Pat's link (the roster) includes hometowns, not GPA's.

That was also my take on Pat's comments, as well as noting that until very recently they WERE worth watching (and parents and some alums would want to watch them even now).

....what has changed from a few years ago? They have a nice stadium and campus. Plus they have a kid from Beaver and one from Mars.

Funny enough, I didn't say he was throwing stones at the school. He threw stones at the football program, of course. But the school's makeup is very relevant to my point.

Yep, you got it. +1 (and to Ypsi and others who got the point). Point is that the roster comes from lots of areas, not all within easy driving distance of Cleveland five times a season.

Pat, I really don't think anyone here is throwing stones at Case.  Even I was well aware of Case's academic standing, before your comment....Also, we are all aware that there is always the possibility of meeting up with parents, d3posters, etc...at pre-game festivities and we all want to get to know each other thanks to your excellent website.

However, it is true that we do like to let people know that we believe our team is the best...and do a little trash talk...and I think it has been well within the bounds of civility here 99 percent of the time....

And since we are talking about points....A rebuilding team like Case is definitely going to be hard pressed to not come out on the short end playing Linfield who is probably headed into one of our best years....But of course that's why we get to play the game.
