Mr. Ypsi

si.com has a major story on the "Grambling Mess" - it is much more than just the long bus trips (though that is ONE complaint).  I'm not sure the football program at the D1 level (and perhaps the university itself) will survive much longer - things are catastrophically screwed up.

See Jack Parkman's posting for the link to the story.

He linked to the espn story; I think the si.com story was much more complete.

Has anybody seen both PLU and Pacific yet? I'd like some games predictions!     :o

I've seen PLU this year in person and watched Pacific on the "interenets" play Adrian. And I think Adrian is like 4-1. So I don't know how that translates into anything.  ???

Ypsi,
Thanks...very enlightening article regarding a legendary program. Plus K for you!

Here's something to liven up the board for the Bearcat and Wildcat cognocenti:

Hall of Fame Focus: Women's Soccer and Football Player Elizabeth (Heaston) Thompson  She is being inducted into the Willamette Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 1998 women's soccer team.

The former Ms. Heaston is also being inducted as a member of the 1997 football team because "on October 18, 1997, Thompson became the first woman to play and score in a college football game when she kicked two extra points on two attempts in a 27-0 win over Linfield College. She also played against Southern Oregon University. Her accomplishments are highlighted at the College Football Hall of Fame."

Props and Go Bearcats!

How many of you would sit on a bus for 700 miles just to get the chance to play one more game?  I believe it was La Verne that drove to Linfield a few years back to get stomped.  Looking back, I am sure those guys would do it again in a heartbeat.

Forfeit the game?  They should forfeit their scholarships.  What a bunch of crybabies. And they "protest" a game thats only 160 miles away.  The administration ain't much better though.  Who schedules a Mississippi team against a Louisianna team in Indiana.  What genius PR guy came up with that idea?

Grambling should have to forfeit the game. There is no excuse for players to react this way. >:(

It was actually 620 Miles and the other team flew to the game. Nonetheless, if players are being treated unfairly, I think they should take a stand. However, if I was one of these players and this mistreatment is only due to not having the top notch facilities as their counterpart, they need to understand that not all schools are the same and that they chose to go to Grambling State, they knew what the program stood. Now, me personally, I would want to play every game regardless of travel, because at Division III, you are not always fortunate to have top-notch facilities or big-time weight room, you play because you love the game and this is without a athletic scholarship.

Willamette @ L&C:

Triple take this week - Surprisingly close game.
Pat Coleman: No. 22 Willamette at Lewis and Clark. Lewis and Clark has been putting some points on the board lately behind quarterback Keith Welch, scoring 34 vs. UW-Platteville and 21 vs. Pacific Lutheran, both teams we believe to be better than Willamette. It's not a stretch to see the Pioneers scoring enough points to make the game surprisingly close.

Meanwhile, over at AD-Catdome:
The offensive show for Willamette will continue this season as the Bearcats roll up to the Hill.  L&C's offense is more pass heavy with Welch looking to get the ball out fast and he loves the middle of the field.  That will play right into the strength of the Willamette defense (DB's).  I'm expecting L&C to play hard for the whole game but Willamette has too much firepower for the Pio defense to contain.  Look for lopsided score in this one.

Two points: 1) I'm not sure yet if PLU is better than Willamette. I think next Saturday will be a pretty even match-up, and we face a stiff challenge tomorrow.  2) I think 11 has this one called better than Pat.  L&C will likely put up some points....but look for Willamette to score a bunch.  Maybe something like 52-28?

And see, to me, 52-28 would be surprisingly close.

I meant the game they refused to get on the bus for, the game today, is reported to be 160 miles away.  If the players are being "mistreated", heck yeah, take a stand, but "unfairly", please  ::).  I think it was incredibly stupid to drive overnight to the Alcorn game, but that's from experience.  People do not sleep well on buses, especially the big guys.  They should have left Thursday or Friday morning.

But enough of this, I'm ready for some d3, GO LUTES!!
