OK, I know this is a stupid question,

but can someone give me a quick explanation on why the 2nd ranked Cats get seeded below the 5th ranked UWW and lose home field advantage?

Why do they not use the rankings as seeding criteria?

The rankings you refer to are actually polls created by entities not directly related to the playoff selections committees.  The playoffs are seeded loosely based on the "regional rankings" that are based on factors including wins versus regionally ranked opponents, strength of schedule, etc. In this regard, the Cats were deemed to have a lower ranking (presumably because Whitewater won more games against regionally ranked opponents) thus the game in Wisconsin this coming week.  So while we were ranked #2 by D3football.com and #3 by the AFCA we were ranked #3 in the West region by the committee and probably #5 or 6 in the overal playoff seedings.... hope this helps.
Go Cats!

Thanks for the explanation Monrovia.

But that being the case, it sure seems like someone's off their nut somewhere when
the #2 team in the nation is #3 in their own region and the #1 team isn't even in that region.

Not saying anybody got hosed here, but you'd think think they could be more consistent than that.

Anyway, go Cats!

Actually---Whitewater is in our region but they do move teams around to create a workable (geographically speaking) bracket.

You are absolutely right on point.    Here is a better idea to remove all personal bias for home games in the quarter and semi-finals.   It is based on the idea that the final eight teams are all good and more or less evenly matched.   Also, no team should automatically get all home games.    Therefore, all personal opinions and biases should be removed.

Division III football playoffs:
For the Quarter-finals and the semi-finals, NCAA should just flip a coin to see who gets the home game.

That is the only fair and unbiased method.

Flip a coin for next week's games and the following week's games.

Tuxguy,
You must be busy lurking around the Catdome because I've missed your banter on these boards as of recent.

Way to dial it up in the second half boys,  Big D broke out a new bag of salt (Salty D) and started bringing pressure,  that was the difference. Most impressed with #55 Hoff (DE) he really brought great backside pressure and killed the dive.  But then again I'm a bit partial to big DEnds that do that stuff !!

Props to the Tigers, they gave us all that we could handle. tough bunch.

Phone it in baby. NEXT !!!

Good afternoon my catville friends :) Looks as if the forecast for Whitewater on Saturday could bring a high temp only in the teens.

Our low temps mid week could match the Whitewater high temps. Look for early morning practices to acclimate the Wildcats.

My Whitewater friends will be along anytime and keep us posted.

Great job Cats....After the coaches figured out the Tigers game plan, they didn't score again....or something like that...
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!
