11, I don't really care if that hit was legal or not.  But if that was an example of Meng just 'bracing for impact', I'd hate to be on the receiving end when he actually launches himself.  Enjoy the week.

..and what I see is Meng hitting him with his shoulder right above the numbers of his chest.  I don't see him launching himself either but bracing for impact and I think that's a big difference.

You just contradicted yourself.  Either he's bracing for impact or he's creating the impact.  In the slowed down version, his feet are perpendicular to the ground at the time of impact and are coming off the ground.  It looks like his helmet made contact with the chin zone but the shoulder impact was in the upper sternum and enough to force the blindsided player back before the helmet became the primary issue.  I'll try to post the video and still via Twitter -- @FrankRossi -- never tried posting a video through there, though.

I would argue that your picture shows the hit was legal.  The key term in the rule interpretation you posted (in my mind), was the phrase "initial contact." My opinion is that the picture show the blocker led with his shoulder and it appears that the initial impact was to the chest of the opponent. The follow through led to contact with the neck and head area, but the initial impact does seem to be in the chest.

Give me a break, it's called football people. If you want to play with a skirt on, go tryout for the NFL or something like that. I got earholed against Menlo at full speed running down on a kickoff, my head is still spinning almost 20 years later. My own team rewound the play multiple times during film review to laugh at me getting blown up. It's called head on a swivel and I never made that mistake again. You know the risks when you put the pads on.

Way to dial it up in the second half boys,  Big D broke out a new bag of salt (Salty D) and started bringing pressure,  that was the difference. Most impressed with #55 Hoff (DE) he really brought great backside pressure and killed the dive.  But then again I'm a bit partial to big DEnds that do that stuff !!

Props to the Tigers, they gave us all that we could handle. tough bunch.

Phone it in baby. NEXT !!!

Hey, NWC's posters!  Hope you are well.

GHC,  I seem to recall, you and, I making a pact some time ago, that the next time the Hawks and the Cats met, depending on where it was played, we would travel to each others neighborhood to hang out for the game.  Now maybe that was, specific to last years play-offs, but since this play-off game is at the Perk, I have no qualms about trying to hold you to it!   ;D  Any chance you are coming with 11?

And WC11, we will be tailgating with a heater and fire pit so you need to find us and we will make you the best Bloody Mary, or loaded Hot chocolate, depending on your preference.  I know you always have things to do but, heck, you are entitled to a little fun, too, along the way, aren't you?   8-)

And so we meet again, footballfan413! I really think it is your turn to come back to Oregon this year, but our boys will be headed your way. We would love to see The Perk and watch these two teams go at it in person, but will be watching on the computer, which isn't a bad deal.

Hope that boy of yours is doing well!
Yes, we have to (not) stop meeting like this.   ;)  Now that my son is 5 years out, we do not travel to games anymore so having the game at the Perk works very well for me.  You will be way warmer than we will, however.  Still have wonderful memories of our first trip to play the Cats in 05.  Hospitality abounded and I hope we can return the favor to some of the Cat fans on Saturday.  I, also, hope to give WC11 a big hug to take back to his daddy.  My boy is doing real well, coco.  Thank you for asking.  Four years cancer free, teaching 8th grade math, and just finished his first year coaching LB's at the college level.  He loved getting back to those road trips.   ;D

Yep, the woosifying of the rules in football.  I don't understand why its not the responsibility of the blockee to keep an eye out where he is going.  As long as you dont go for the head or the knees, hard hits are the name of the game.  I don't understand defensive targeting penalties, might as well make it illegal for offenses to run crossing routes.

Don't like collision sports then take up a contact sport like dancing. It's football and although nobody wants to see injuries its gonna happen.

I saw the hit and it was a perfect block. Our defender should have been alert to his blindside.
Good luck to you guys this weekend.

Thanks so much, GHC, you were amazing support throughout that horrible ordeal.   Sorry, I know I just blew your cover on here!   ;D But to be clear, I was referring to his being 5 years out of football.  Only 3 1/2 to 4 years, (depends on which Oncologist you talk to,) out from cancer but we'll take it.   I'll give him your best at tailgating Saturday.   :-* :-*
