Payne gets me excited watching him run the ball.  He is one of those types of runners that looks like he's all wrapped up and then suddenly he's running free....running over and through people.

I have no idea why any posters on here would care about sharing information on injuries or transfers out/in for the Wildcats.  I come to these boards for information and love to hear updates about players.  Why the need for secrecy?

Same thing goes for scouting reports... if anything that a person posts on a message board actually ever influences a coordinators game plan I'd be astounded.

THis year sucks only having 4 home games? WTF! (again!)  ;D

Just make the trip north on Oct. 4th for the Lute game.  I'm planning on coming down for that one.

Whats the word on the turf for the Cat Dome? Is it $$$$$$ holding this one up? Or are they waiting for after the football camp?
George Fox has a nice billboard on the way back from the coast announcing the return of football!
Talked to some Pacific players at the coast, and they think they will be on top this year. They really like there coach and feel he is setting the program up to dominate the NWC for years to come....have always felt Pacific was the cocky school, but they do feel they are there!

OK, I will say this right up front, partially because Cat fans shouldn't even have to bother addressing this and partially because I like to call 'em as I see 'em without regard to PCness.  The bolded part of the statement above is silly. I'm glad Pacific players like their coach. They are not going to win the NWC this year and the idea that they are "setting the program up to dominate the NWC for years to come" is slightly premature given they did not even have a winning record in conference last year.  I'm not a NWC expert, but I do respect history.  UW-P was picked to win the WIAC last year despite the fact that they have not won a conference title in 36 years.  Didn't buy that then and don't buy Pacific this year.

Pacific had a nice season last year. Teams that aren't used to "nice seasons" tend to look back on close losses as if they are victories. They are not. Pacific has shown nice progress going from 0-6 to 3-3 in one game increments over 4 seasons. But they still have lost as many games over the past 4 years as Linfield has over the past 18 seasons.  The Wildcats will and should be favorites to win the NWC this year, next year, and probably the year after that.

(After re-reading my post, I felt like I should add one thing. I do think it's a good thing Pacific players believe they will win the conference this year. That is how a player should think. I was speaking purely to the argument itself.  If that makes sense)

Pacific was a really good 4th place team last year.

Was......and who do they have returning.  Will be fun to see how it plays out this year.

Pacific Boxers do seem to get a bit irritated with Cat fans.  One night a bunch of us drove to Forest Grove for a basketball game.  It was a tight game and it became obvious that the Boxers best player was getting annoyed by the rowdy Cat Fans.  Things got a little tense as the Boxer was mouthing off to some Cat Fan "digs".  Can't remember who won, but I do remember the PU administration forced us to exit the building via the back door.  Maybe Old Cat Prof remembers that event.....

Do I remember? Hey, my nose still hurts from the unexpected punch I took immediately after the game from a Pacific Football player. THE STORY:

In 1974-75 or so, Willamette was playing Pacific on the road (last game of season) in a very important basketball game. Linfield had some "interest" in the outcome but I don't remember the exact circumstance. Maybe it was just general dislike of Pacific or maybe we got a playoff berth if Willamette beat Pacific in this game. Pacific was highly favored so a groundswell of interest sent a busload (and many cars) of Wildcat fans to Forest Grove that evening. One Linfield professor even promised his students 5 points "extra credit" if they went to the game. He took his gradebook with him and took attendance. There were about 20 Willamette fans at the game and more than 100 Linfield fans who cheered wildly at every Pacific miscue and Willamette success. The Pacific fans (and players) didn't much care for this and it got really nasty inside the gym. Pacific lost the game, which REALLY caused things to get nasty. Among the casualties was yours-truly with a sore nose and some suddenly-less-rowdy Linfield fans once the Pacific fans started rocking the Linfield bus back and forth with them in it. It was a night to remember.

There are likely few Pacific fans that remember this specific event but it gives you a sense of the "history" between the schools. Frankly, I'm not as proud of this evening as I once was...but it makes a great (true) story.

How many can remember the Pacific player comming of the sidelines and tackling a Wildcat after he intercepted the ball and was streaking down the sideline? Got the 'cats on Monday night football and nobody expected it. What year was it? Who was the Pacific player? Who was the 'cat that intercepted the pass and who was the Linfield Head coach?

I do... I was covering the intended receiver on the play.  The year was 1989.  Pacific LB Joe Schmelzer #66 came off the sidelines and hit Tony Chiu as he was running for a touchdown.  Rutschman came down from the booth and onto the field (the only time in the four years I was there) to help make sure nothing happened to Schmelzer as he was escorted off the field.

And they ran that play on ABC's Monday night football.  I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
