Two things I took away from Whit/L&C.  The Rats offense is going to demand the DC's around the NWC to dedicate more time in game prep.  Also, like I've mentioned before, L&C is going to be historically bad.

The 'Cats are going to get a big old test this Saturday night.  Chapman's offense looks really dynamic.  The QB is Yoder-ish and their scheme is solid vs an inexperienced but talented Linfield defense.  I love what the 'Cats offense is doing but it comes down to the performance of our trigger man when live bullets are flying.

The local McMinnville fish wrapper (The News Register) continued it's odd fascination with GFU by writing another 3 page article on the Bruin football team in the Friday addition...... highlighting it's upcoming opponent Arizona Christian and listing all the starters and probable back-ups, quotes from the coach, etc.

In the same paper they also had a little approx. 1 square inch article about the upcoming Linfield scrimmage. I haven't seen a comprehensive article about this years Linfield football team yet. Pretty sure this will all be settled on the field soon.

Very strange.......  ::)

For more than 40 years the "local fishwrapper" has been known by many locals as The News-Resister.

Add to this the masthead change a few years ago from McMinnville News-Register to the Yamhill Valley News Register and this is the level of coverage the previously-home-team gets. It probably doesn't help that the relatively new Sports Editor likely was given marching orders to reflect this.

Here is hoping for a great season for the Cats!  Tough start down at Chapman.  They are looking to make a mark on the national scene with a home win against Linfield.  Sounds like they have a lot of skill players back from last year's offense.  It always seems to take our new LBs a game or two to get comfortable so the offense better be ready.  Who is the starting QB?  How are the RBs looking?  (PMs are great - I won't divulge any info received)

You Cat Fans are overdoing your concerns with Chapman, or are you worried LF is not that good this year? Chapman does have some real nice skills, but up front they do not match up. Games are won up front.
You greater concern should be the UR game. UR actually has some linemen that can play and better linebackers.

Olddog , please excuse us Cat Fans...we lost our ability some 58 years ago to focus beyond the next game...The Chapman Panthers are the most important game we have...and yes we always worry about our Cats but we never worry that they are not good enough !

I like the passion the Cat fans have, most of you guys show class too.
I know Chapman as well as I know any other team in the SCIAC. They have some nice skills, as good as anyone we will play...Two really good RBs and the QB is slick, TE is a good athlete, big target.
Up front they struggle last year they converted two backers to D line, Their NG was #210 and 3 tech Tackle about #235.  On offense this year they did not recruit an O linemen as per their roster, last year three or four and none were all league first team types. They have been very frustrated by their linemen recruits. A proto typical LF guys is 6'2" 280 and moves pretty well, C U does not match up. On defense UR went to a four man front the last 2/3 of the game and Chapman struggled to get a first down running the ball. They could not root out our two 265# DT. This year we are a lot smaller up front on defense so I have the same concerns when you play us. LF by 14...anything less LF should be disappointed.

olddog...I'm pretty sure our lines can hold up. They've done it against the best in D3 year in and year out. And this year won't be any different.   ;D

I agree, I think LF and MHB could play with half the  1AA teams, and be very respectable. I have had a couple family members play 1AA and been to many games...When you talk to UR players about the good teams like MHB, PLU, NC Central, the Regals...they say the same thing...linemen are better and they play faster....
Regal coach Mac, touched on the same topic today. Go on the Regals website and read his post....about your game from Coach Mac's blog. I hope the Regals can take PLU...helps UR, SOS.....

The upcoming Willamette - Trinity game this Saturday should give the NWC an idea of where it stands with non-conference opponents.  The Bearcats got votes in the D3Football top 25, Trinity did not.  WU is playing its first game, TU played a close game losing against Howard Payne, 30-27.  The Tigers' QB has a 62.5% passing completion average, but was sacked 3 times.  The Tigers scored twice in the 4th Q and have 5 on the defense with double digits in total tackles.  An excerpt from the TU write up of the game:

"Mason Blaschke was 15-24 for 208 yards and a pair of scores in his return after missing last year due to injury for the Tigers.  Zachary Allen caught four passes for 78 yards and a touchdown in his first career start.

Defensively, Boatman led all players with 14 tackles overall, as well as the key interception.  Camden Joubert also had 14 stops, while J.P. Sanchez (12) and Connor Yorloff (10) also hit double figures in tackles.  Though Trinity had several quarterback hurries, the team was not able to record any sacks.

Trinity will be on the road for its next two games, facing off against Willamette (OR) University on September 13 (1:30 PDT), and then taking on Sul Ross (TX) State University at 1:00 p.m. on September 20.  The Tigers return home September 27, hosting Pacific Lutheran (WA) University at 6:00 p.m."
