Congratulations to Linfield for the big win at Mary Hardin Baylor.

Please destroy Widener.  Surprised you are the ones traveling.

I suspect that Linfield will do a number on Widener, and Wesley do one on Hobart.  Amazingly, the two who may have the most trouble are UMU (against JCU) and UWW (against Wartburg).  There just might be some new faces in Salem this year (though if I were voting this week, UWW and UMU would still be #1 and #2, respectively)!
Linfield and Wesley 3 and 4 UMHB 5 ?

wesleydad

Linfield fans, you asked if any CNU folk cared to fill you in on Widener and CNU85 gave you a quick tidbit.  How about a view from someone who saw them play 3 times this year, against Wilkes, DelVal, and CNU.  As someone stated Widener seems to come out prepared for the game, I believe they scored on the first drive in all 3 games I saw.  With that in mind, they were in a tight game with teams that I don't think are as good as Linfield at the half.  I did not see the game, but they also trailed Muhlenberg late into the 4th.  The defense looks tough and the front 7 will get after it, but all the teams I saw were able to move the ball on them.  The secondary can be thrown on.  They play soft and try to make plays, but they do tackle well.  The offense is ok.  They have a top notch receiver who will make plays when given the chance.  He had big catches in all 3 of the games I saw that changed the way the game was going.  The running game is ok, probably not as good as UMHB's.  The QB is ok.  He will make some really good throws and then make some really poor ones.  I know what the stats say, but I think that is more from the fact that their league was not as good as it usually is this year.  CNU is an average team as far as the national scene goes and gave Widener a game for more than a half.  Widener needs to be concerned that they allowed CNU to get back in the game.  As far as I am concerned they are playing with house money because if not for some really crazy stuff at the end of the Muhlenberg game they are out in round 1.  The biggest issue I see for Linfield is the fact that they are traveling across country again and that will take its toll no matter what.  Linfield looked a little sloppy with the ball in the parts of the game I saw with UMHB and if they do that they will keep Widener in the game.  I think Linfield wins this game rather easily if they take care of the ball and can handle the travel.  Good luck this week.  Maybe we can get things to work out and see each other again in the Stagg Bowl.  Last time was fun.

I might do that, pending how JCU and Wartburg fare on Saturday.  If either wins, they would certainly jump at least UMHB (and whichever team they beat), since they would now have this season's most impressive win (replacing Linfield in that category).

I don't think I could have stated that more accurately....
The bottom of the MAC was awful this year, and that padded much of the defensive numbers...offensively, not as much, as Widener backed off in many of those games...
This game will be a real challenge for WU...

Sweet - thanks and enjoy the ride!

I would hope and expect that Coach Smith and a few alums would be sharing stories about past performances vs. Wesley, Oshkosh, etc., in the playoffs. Everyone is good at this point and every team is to be respected. Assume nothing and play your game all-out all the time.

Thanks wesleydad and MonroviaCat.

I'm still calm, cool, collected - for a Tuesday.

You guys are probably use to it, but I think it has been increased to 90% in the matter of hours. I think 3 out of the 4 games may be played in the rain.

Been looking at the satellite picture of Quick Stadium. "Heavens to Mergatroy"...there are no bleachers on the visitor sideline????  Gulp...you mean we will have to sit in enemy territory...among the HOMIES??? :o Do I need to wear a disguise? Maybe I better stop off at the Bookstore ahead of time and buy a Widener sweatshirt. ;D

Actually, am looking forward to the visit.
GO CATS !!!

Unless they've been removed since my last trip, there is a small row of bleachers on the far side.

My comments were in jest, of course, but even so, a "small row of bleachers" is insufficient for our fans who will attend. But, no problem. We CatDomers will enjoy interacting with the Widener folks and look forward to our visit.

A Widener poster said that many opposing fans choose to sit on their side because the visitor's standa are so low to the ground.  He said there have never been problems that he was aware of.
