Always like to see the young guys get in and was really impressed by the RB #9. Our two primary RBs do too much dancing and it was nice to see a decisive run each carry. Hope we didn't lose anyone for the season to injuries!
Thanks Walla as that is my son #9. He has always ran that way.

He ran hard, Wildcatdad22.  He made the most of his reps for sure.

Thanks wildcat11! What's up with the SCIAC players flopping to get flags?

Too close to Hollywood, I guess.

I officiate high school basketball and flopping is a challenge to call.

#1 It isn't what you expect to see so being prepared for it is not always easy (no one teaches flopping in football or basketball BUT everyone is worried about excessive contact).

#2 The penalty is too severe as faking being fouled is a Technical.

#3 Officials just aren't very good.  We have all seen the 3 point shooter hit the floor like he was shot and the referee give him the call because the ref didn't do his job which is to watch the shooter all the way up and all the way down and then turn and follow the ball.

What we are starting to see more are flops on little or no contact from swinging elbows.  It used to be just flops on block/charges and 3 point shooters. Kids are getting more savvy and officials aren't keeping up.

My solution would be to make flopping in basketball a violation with either continuation if done by the defense or an immediate dead ball if done by the offense.  A 3 point shooter flopping discounts his try for goal.  A defender flopping is penalized at the completion of the play (a delayed violation).  A violation would make it more likely to be called.

Right now the only option is a no-call.  I've been calling flops on block/charges as blocks without much pushback.

Football needs to put 2 officials on the kicker and or adjust the position of the White Hat.  They also need to make flopping by any player a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty or a 5 yard penalty (depending on the severity kind of like a face mask).  It can't be a no-call.

My vote is number #3 for sure...horrible call by the ref....No reason to change the game, refs just need to get better....I have ranted about SCIAC officials, I can tell you the traits of most of those guys..., but after seeing the NW officials Saturday....I am going out on a limb and saying the SCIAC are slightly better...wow I just said that...
Add to the list Pass Interference calls when a kid trips over his own feet on a route and not a defender on him ..A hold is not holding unless you take one to the ground in the NW...

WC, Thanks for the puppies reference...I think your take this week was spot on, other than the score, could be worse.
We can not give up four scores like CU did...we can not give up one free score, no one can against LF and win.

Each game is a new opportunity and I'm sure Redlands will be ready to go.  Linfield has a ton of talent but is a work in progress.  I'm looking forward to it.

For some reason I am up watching GameDay on ESPN already and they are getting ready to talk about the punter flop. This thing got huge.

Anyway, great day for football. Here's to a Cats win and no injuries.
