Coach Smith knocked it out of the park on SportsCenter.  Pretty lucky to have him leading the 'Cats!

 ;) Nicely done, Coach!.

Everyone connected to LINFIELD caught the minor error in the chart of STREAK coaches in that Rutschman WAS an All American at LINFIELD - as well as a high school coach.

They also only listed the 3 NAIA championships--missed the 2004 D3 one (unless my eyes missed it)

I also noticed the omission.

They did mention the 2004 NCAA III title - it was on a separate graphic. I noticed it first and was wondering if they'd mention the NAIA II titles, and then those came up.

And yeah, I did wonder how they missed having Ad Rutschman as a product of the Linfield program ...

For midweek football fodder, I'll throw out the topic of the conversation I had with several friends at the Oregon State game Saturday evening (the second half of my 99W college football doubleheader):

Which is more impressive - Linfield's streak of 60 consecutive winning seasons, or Mt. Union's streak of 100 consecutive regular-season wins?

Discuss.

The 60 years of winning seasons is obviously the most impressive ;)  I think having a streak that spans multiple coaching changes, playing in different leagues and levels (if NAIA and D3 can be considered different levels) and for 6 decades is very impressive.

The STREAK will have to play second fiddle to the University of Mt. Union until the programs play head-to-head. UMU is sitting in a pretty safe place with 10 games, no interest in scheduling far west and the NCAA seeding.

A West / North bracket is always possible and this would be a nice year. LINFIELD would STILL have to travel back there.

UMU can see the bonfire on the western horizon.

Mount Union and Linfield should be bracketed to meet in the final. The committee will screw that up, though.

There's only one game I'd want to see more than a Linfield v Mt game in the Stagg.

DOC, the NCAA will NEVER send Mount Union out here.   When was the last time Mount Union was ever asked to travel anywhere for a playoff game?

I just hope this is the year we meet them in the Stagg Bowl.   I have wanted a match with Mount Union for 15 years.

But, one game at a time.   We have some tough games before that could even happen.

Not until we give them a good enough reason to (like winning 100 consecutive regular season games or something.  Or when they change the way the playoffs are done (which isn't likely but I know is George's utmost wish regarding this subject)
QuoteWhen was the last time Mount Union was ever asked to travel anywhere for a playoff game?
1996 (or pretty much every year in the Stagg Bowl)

Agreed--that is what we all want and maybe this is the year we get it...
