Excellent use of your time I'd say.  ;)

Yeah...I think my wife just shook her head at me last night at 10:45 when I was individually clicking on people's heads.  :D
Have you seen this one? Pretty funny:

Ha!  That was pretty much the conversation.

Here you go (page 9 and 10)

Thanks USEE for this link.  Good stuff to get some clarity in the decision making process!

Two things that I would please appreciate some poster input...I know you guys have something to say about this!

The primary selection criteria has six bullet points with a clear caveat that they are
"Not listed in priority order".  Why not?  I'm sure there's a reason but it does seem to put a subjective fog into the committees decisions.  Why can't the six points be considered in an order that reflects
Fair assessment of the teams..."Every time"??

The second thing I don't question (much) but does clarify that the site selection for the games has nothing to do with that home teams standing in the rankings.
I can't speak for certain on the first question but I think they wanted to leave room for flexibility which I think is needed (to a degree).  If for instance they put winning percentage as the highest priority, you could have a team that is undefeated but who beat nobody with a winning record ranked ahead of a team that had one loss to the defending national champion in overtime on a bad call.  On the other hand, if you prioritize wins over ranked opponent you might end up with a team that won a fluke game against a great team and then loss 2 to a couple of mediocre teams ranked over an undefeated team with a great SOS but no regionally ranked wins.....I think you get it from here?

Keep in mind that these regional rankings are put together by teams of 8 and then the at-large selections are made by another team of 8.  Each individual on those teams are free to interpret and apply the criteria in whatever way they see fit, the group votes on the teams under consideration, and teams are ranked or selected accordingly.  So what you wind up with, I think, is a pretty even application of criteria across the board when all is said and done.
[/b]

I'm not so sure about the bolded statement.  The general consensus seems to be (just considering two of the criteria) that some years winning% seems to way overbalance SOS, while other years it is just the reverse.  It also seems to vary widely between regional committees even in the same years.

I mean, that actually is possible, but then the wording of the game story from the marketing department was not worded properly.

That's what happens when you put a marketing department in charge of sports information.  It's all about selling the program and not about facts.

The fact they just put out their game Pacific game review and led off with the Linfield/GFU attendance number again just closes the case that they have nothing to do with sports information but are just purely a promotional arm......the Iraqi Information Ministers of the NWC.

Last week, George Fox limited the No. 2-ranked Linfield Wildcats to their fewest points of the season in front of a packed house of more than 3,300 fans. Now, George Fox (3-5) heads into the backstretch of the season looking to get back into the winning column against the Boxers of Pacific University (5-3).

The sad thing is, George Fox had an outstanding SID until they added football and decided to change direction in that department. The Northwest Conference is fortunate it now has the gentleman as part of the NWC staff.

I always wondered where 'Baghdad Bob' ended up - good to know he is alive and well in Newberg.  He's a great comedian. ;D

If any of you that feel like they have a good understanding and would like to write a guest post next week after the regional rankings come out and what it could possibly mean for Linfield, let me know.  I'm up for it.

Linfield will host LaVerne or Whitworth. Likely to host a Texas team after that. Then insert some other guesses and speculation. Good enough?

Counting all those red dots....does lend some credibility to the issue.  If you're going to do a thing, then do a thing correctly and imperically(that's a big word...I don't know what it means)

Is it an important issue...I dunno!!!

What is important is that it's ok to question things in our society, in fact its necessary.

That word starts with an 'e' and means data, evidence, or observation driven.

...and yes, that's a fair point. I'm just a little amused that 11 is so annoyed by this.  ;)

I think D nailed it.  Round 1 is pretty easy to predict for the Cats.  After that, it's probably a matchup against a Texas team (unless anything crazy happens the next two games).  The only real question is (in my mind):  Where is that 2nd round game played?

I think the "guest post" should probably be a primer (for people not reading these boards) on how the selection process actually works (e.g. the top 25 rankings have absolutely nothing to do with it and geography and $ have a big part in how brackets get arranged).....
Go Cats!
