A question for whoever may know rules.....

On a punt return with 2 men back ..... standing pretty much together.... one calls for fair catch by waiving his hand in the air.... the ball goes to the other player not waiving his had..... that player catches it and runs for a touchdown.... is this a legal play?
I know where you are going with this and here's what I think is the rule (based on my internet searches and no actual knowledge).  If any member of the receiving team signals for a fair catch, the ball is dead once possession is established.  That being said, I'm just watching the game now and from the video I can not see anybody making a fair catch signal---just a "get out of the way" arm sweeping to side....not saying it didn't happen, just saying I cant see it on the stream.

I dunno, maybe we should ask the refs that did the Central Michigan-Oklahoma State game this weekend.  I hear they won't be busy next weekend.

I just rewatched that play...the other returner didn't call for a fair catch...it was just a poor tackle and crappy coverage.

Agreed 11 poor tackle and bad coverage and a great return, kid was fast.

I personally would skip Franklin's in Austin, but that's because I think it's dumb to wait for BBQ in Texas when there are so many good options. Someone will tell you to go there though, I'm sure. Watching the bats fly from under the Congress bridge is sweet. I would eat some food, see the bats (or vice versa) then bar hop along 6th st. Not to drink so much as to take in some live music. It's like Broadway St in Nashville...maybe with a few less bars with bands.

I don't think you do anything other than watch UMHB football in Belton, hopefully some of the Cru faithful have some eating/drinking recommendations.

Agreed, unless you have the time and don't mind the wait.  I mean, it's great BBQ, but I usually don't suggest it to visiting fans unless they are making a big trip out of it.

Also, Kelly has already suggested the best BBQ in Belton.  I've never had a bad meal at Miller's.  Some really good craft beer too, if you're into that sort of thing.  ;)  Rudy's is decent BBQ too if you want to check out a chain.  I've always been fond of their sauce.  It's not in Belton itself, but one is a short drive away.  Schoepf's is also in Belton, but I'm not a big fan.  I think Miller's is worth eating at twice before going there.  Let's see... if any of y'all are bringing the wife/girlfriend/significant other along, I recommend taking some time to visit the shops in Salado.  It's just south of Belton.  I live on a farm just outside of town.  Some really neat historical markers to check out, and of course a few more breweries to hit up.  Barrow Brewing Co. is fantastic, and Chupacabra also has a shop in town.  Salado also has a winery which I've been pretty impressed with the last few times I went (most of it doesn't compare to the stuff on the west coast, though).  There's a decent pizza place right in the middle of town, so that might be a good stop in-between tastings.

There's not much in the way of entertainment, though.  I'm sure this varies with people's tastes.  There is a karst cavern in Georgetown (between Austin and Belton) which can be fun if you're into that sort of thing.  It's called Inner Space.  I just took my son there last week and we had a good time.  If you are flying in/out of Austin, then there are many more things to see and do there than in Belton itself.  There's a race track (Circuit of the Americas), though I don't know if anything is happening there right now.  Some great golf in the Central Texas area, too.  Too many courses to suggest.  (509)Rat already mentioned the other big things.  The bats are cool, and so is 6th Street.  Honestly, I don't have any specific recommendations for establishments.  Just follow the crowds.  University of Texas kids are always out and about and know where the fun stuff is happening.

Safe travels to those making the trip to TX.  I -should- be at the game early, but no exact plans yet for tailgating.  If that changes, I'll give you a heads up and would love to meet some of you.

He was fast--not sure about the "shushing" gesture that he made at the end of the run...but a nice return nonetheless.

Watched the MHB/TLU game yesterday and was impressed how good MHB looked and how hard TLU fought to stay in the game. It was a closer contest then score reflected. Blake Jackson of MHB has got to be one of the best D3 double threat QB's out there. Jackson in two games passing is 33-53-1 for 441 yds and rushing 19 carries 262 yds. No question offense runs through him. His favorite target is WR Josey with 207 receiving yds in two games. Blake reminds me of the late great Andy Collins from Occidental from a few years ago that Cat fans will remember. Cat defense has to contain Jackson and not let him pull it down and take off for the kind of yardage he has in first two games and put some pressure on him or he will find Josey. Baylor Mullins was up to his old tricks that Cat fans will remember from playoffs in Belton two years ago by taking off on 4th down and running for 1st down. He did it against TLU yesterday at a critical time in the game running for 18 yds. He has to be accounted for as a threat to run on 4th down!  Both MHB and Linfield's offenses are potent and can score which leads me to think this game will come down to which defense can disrupt the opposing teams offense and for the Cats that challenge will be stopping Jackson from doing what he wants to do. This game sets up to be the best D3 contest until playoffs. The atmosphere will be electric in one of the top D3 stadiums where l believe the Cru has not loss a regular season home game in 10 years. Can't wait to get to Belton to watch this one !  Go Cats !
UMHB got a new stadium two or three years ago.  But ten years of home games might be correct.

You are right GF and l knew that just didn't state it correctly.  I believe the 10 years is correct many of those coming at local High School that they used for home games. I think our friends from Whitewater were the last to win a regular season game on the CRU's home turf.

10 years is right, last regular season home loss was October 28. If you like defense it was brilliant, the game ended 7-3 with Whitewater running the opening kickoff back for a touchdown and the only other points were a late field goal by UMHB. Another crazy stat from the game was there was 324 yards of total offense combined.

Guessing this Saturday the score and stats will be slightly different.

Safe travels to any of you coming down for the game, looking forward to next year when I get to experience the Cat Dome for the first time.

Haha DOC, sadly for me you don't have to narrow your focus to just 2004. I am not sure which was the worse the beating of 2009 or the come back last year. Superstitions may now work but surely the law of averages has to work eventually.

The semifinal with the kickoff into the wind that blew backwards and didn't land 10 yards from the tee.

Just a little stroll down Bad Memory Lane...  :-\

If my recollection is correct, in the 2006 Whitewater game UMHB missed at least one field goal (but it could have been two). It was the most exciting 7-3 game I have ever witnessed. UWW running back Justin Beaver was injured and did not play in the game. Whitewater had a beast of a defensive lineman - I think his last name was Kleppe - he was just nasty good. Good game - not such a good memory.  :-\

Although you can get pizza anywhere in the country, Home Slice in Austin is pretty darn good.  I believe it's on S. Congress.  I would take in 6th Street and be happy the Longhorns aren't in town as that place would be bananas with a lot of burnt orange (yuck) running around.
