QuoteConsensus: A split decision favoring the visitors, but since all comers think the game will be close, looks like a toss-up.

The NCAA pays for traveling and housing about 62 people, if I remember correctly -- 52 players and 10 coaches/personnel. (The number might be slightly higher, but that's the basics.) If you bring more people than that then you're responsible for paying for that cost (or recouping it) as an institution.

To me, that number seems pretty outlandish.
I kind of wonder if he was thinking of the year before when they went:  to MHB, to Widener, and to Whitewater.  I have no idea if that could have cost that much money or not but would seem more logical than last year's one game travel to St. Thomas....
Go Cats!

1.  MHB plays an unranked team.
2.  UW-W plays an unranked team, who has 3 losses.
3.  St. Thomas plays an unranked team, who lost by 24 points to another  unranked team.
4.  UW-Oshkosh plays an unranked team, who has 2losses.
5.  North Central plays an unranked team, who has 2 losses.
6.  John Carroll plays an unranked team, who lost by 42 points to another  unranked team.
7.  Mount Union plays the # 19 ranked team.

8. Linfield plays the #11 ranked team.

Coach Smith is right.   NCAA's votes are dominated by midwest and east teams and they care less about the west coast.

Portland media take... (I'm over it too, Joe)

I'm confused about something in the article:
Quote
Last year, for example, Smith said Linfield ran a deficit of about $130,000 playing host to three home games and traveling once.
How did Linfield run a deficit of over $130k when they were hosting games? I'm pretty sure the NCAA pays the home team the equivalent of what the pay for the visiting team's travel stipend (hotels & such), and the NCAA definitely pays for flights to away playoff games (when I was at UWP, a flight game to Lewis & Clark ended up costing less than $100k). Do they stay in fancy hotels the night before their home playoff games? Otherwise the program should have came out money-ahead from hosting.

No, they're playing in Belton.

How about a large Bobcat in a gunny sack?

Thank you, DOC.   Will do since I will be home.   I will try to post little, because I get a little emotional at LC games.

Hope you are making a full recovery soon.   I know what you are going through.

::) Convenient where you stopped listing teams...

9. Saint Johns plays the #12 ranked team, whose two losses were very competitive games against #2 and #4 (more competitive than another team's loss to #1, it could be pointed out).

It's the playoffs George, playing good teams is inevitable. If anything, the Midwest teams got no favors this year. The 3/4 of the MIAC & WIAC have to go through each other. The CCIW teams have to potentially matchup in Rd 2. There were ways this bracket could have been constructed so that this wasn't the case. 7 of the d3football top 15 are teams from MN, WI and IL and none of them got a cakewalk to the semis.

So ...

Using the "comparative scores" route that the NCAA seemed to apply in sending the 'Cats to Texas this week, and figuring bettors often set the value of the home field advantage at three points ...

Hardin-Simmons stacks up pretty well with Pacific Lutheran.  ;)

In a more serious vein, that's a nice win against a very good team. On to Belton!

Looking forward to watching the Cats and CRU meet up next week.  Hope some of the posters are able to make it so I can put a face with the name.
