Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

This may not be a popular view among 'Cat fans, but I for one am welcoming some suspense this season – be it against Whitworth, George Fox or anyone else. While I appreciate Linfield's reign over the Northwest Conference over the past 8 seasons, the past few years it's turned late September through mid-November largely into a series of foregone conclusions.

The dominance goes beyond just a 50-1 conference record. To wit: In 2009, the first year of the Wildcats' current streak of titles, the average margin of victory in conference games was 21 points; since then, the average margins of been 35.5, 32.3, 36.5, 43.8, 44.1, 49.3 and 31.9. In that time, there have been 4 wins decided by less than 10 points – none since 2013 (though there was that 3-point loss to Willamette in 2014) – and 7 more games decided by less than 20 points. In contrast, there have been 9 games decided by 40-49 points, 7 by 50-59 points, 5 by 60-69 points and 3 by more than 70 points.

Wins = nice. Big wins = very nice. But it's gotten boring. You go to Maxwell Field or whatever road venue knowing you'll go home happy, but it's been rather unsatisfying. It was more fun when you had a little bit of a knot in your gut going into a game sometime before the playoffs began.

So – I'm enjoying heading to Mac on Saturday with some mystery in the mix. And there should be a similar feeling for the game against George Fox, and maybe another couple of games. Linfield is trying to find itself offensively, but it also feels like some folks in the conference have stepped up to the challenge. Good.

And Go 'Cats.

Hey, to wit, Whitworth was fortunate to win in '06 and '07.
They bring a winning team to Mac this year.
Loss.

Well we sure have that knot whenever we play MH-B.   It would be nice to have 1 or 2 conference games that would have that same challenge.     I think we will definitely get that today and maybe against George Fox also.

Wow!   I didn't realize the spreads were that high.     The conference has been weak for at least 10 years.    Willamette had a great team in 2008.    But, except for Linfield, that was it since 2001.    For one, I sure miss the close and strong rivalry between Linfield and PLU in the 70s, 80s, 90s.

Would love to see one or two NWC  teams that we know will be tough each year.

I was correct that the rats wouldn't score a td.

Well, I started my day hoping for a competive football game...nothing to lopsided for the Cats to deal with next week. I mean, based on Whitworth stats to date, things coulda, shoulda, might of...gone South for the Cats without anyone thinking..."well, that's weird"!
Football is an amazing game if you really take a close look.  (Duhhhhhh)
Damn....there is a lot going on!
One thing that might be for sure is that Whitworths opponents to date didn't have anything like what the Cats defense offered today. The Cat Offence showed their developing signature as well!
These Wildcats are finding themselves as battle units.  There's always a lot more to do, but today
was fun to watch.
The Linfield Way..."Go Cats"
"THE METTLE'S IN THE MEN!"

bluenote

That was a weird game... 1st downs were 25 to 14 ... weird.

Great day at the Catdome watching Cats take to Whitworth.  In 11's breakdown he said one of the keys for Cat's to have success would be making Kolste uncomfortable when trying to pass and boy did the Cat's get that done causing him to throw three picks...two being pick six and 2 fumbles leading to a total l think of 17 pts. Even when he got the ball off he got rocked. No question the Cat's D had him rattled. His turnovers doomed the Pirates to a long day. Shout out to secondary and linebackers that really
put some special hits on the Pirate receivers. The D won the physical part of the contest no question. The offense started slow but found a nice rythem between the run and passing game and showed growth from prior weeks.
