Yeah, I was super pleased by the defensive backs today as well as the pressure that Kolste felt most of the day.

Offensive started slow but you could see some growth today as the game went along and I thought the 'Cats offense really started to looks sharp in that 3rd quarter.

We have a very damn good defense and an offense that is taking steps towards being solid.  (509)Rat was right that our line play was just too much for Whitworth and the Rats soft non-conference schedule did them no favors in getting ready for today. Freaking great day to be a Wildcat!

WOW!   These Linfield young kids really made huge progress yesterday.    The D continues to look superb.    Whitworth was really overwhelmed by our D.     And that offense is starting to come on strong.    Congrats Wildcats!     A great win!!

Good win for the Cats. The defense was stellar our DB,s were glued to Kolste receiver's all day. Aside from the quick hits and dunks the rats had no open people. I caught part of the GF Pacific game and was not overly impressed with either team. Just my opinion. The video picture was excellent though.

QuoteEven when he got the ball off he got rocked.

Next 'rat series after our 90 second interception TD Kolste was backed inside the 10 at the north end of the field where I was standing ( it was raining just as hard as the south end   ;D ) when someone shed any semblance of a block and stacked him before he could set his feet to throw.
The collision was fortifying.

The score was only a little more lopsided than I thought it would be, but otherwise played out as expected. Linfield's defense is very very good. Linfields offense will not get them out of the second round of the playoffs. Whitworth's offense will never move the ball against the Linfield, UMHB, St. Thomas, UW-whoever's of the world until their offensive line gets stronger and more athletic. Whitworth's defense is improving, but overall the Pirates still don't have the same talent as the year in, year out top 5-10 type d3 programs.

Rat,

I think the switch to a 4 man front will be better long term for the Whitworth defense in coming years and you're right that the Linfield offense has to become much more efficient.

I still can't figure out why they ran Kolste out there with 3 minutes left. I still think he'll wind up being the conferences offensive POY but Linfield has his number.

The only reason l could see was that offense hadn't scored a TD and and maybe coaches felt it was important for them to get at least one. If Whitworth runs the table rest of the way and so does Linfield Pirates could find themselves back in Mac.

Agree with CalCat...As I watched 17 come in with the first unit...it seemed that either getting a TD or
getting away from a single digit score was the motivation.???

Agree with the others re: playing Kolste. I too think it was simply to make the score look prettier. Whether that was for current players' morale, or recruits, or for committee rankings purposes I don't know. But it wasn't because he needed the game experience or because they had a shot at winning.

Also agree with w11 about the 4 man front. When your LBs aren't a strength, I'm not sure why you'd want 4 of them on the field...unless your DL was just as small and even slower (which may have been the case the past couple of years).

WE kept our top 2 qbs in the game until the end... I would have liked to see Smith play a couple series. Especially to see him pass the ball... that dude has an arm.
