The 'Cats have won a few on the road in the playoffs:

1965: NAIA Semis, won 30-27 at Sul Ross State

1986: NAIA Division II first round, won 27-21 (OT) at Pacific Lutheran

2014: NCAA Division III second round, won 31-28 at Mary Hardin-BAylor
NCAA Division III quarterfinals, won 45-7 at Widener

Of course, Hardin-Simmons last year. That's what I get for looking at the year-old version of the list when it's past my bedtime. Thanks for the addition, Bluenote.

As for the Linfield vs. Willamette rivalry, maybe someone can add the details on WU getting Linfield hit with some sort of NWC sanctions in the late 1960s or early 1970s. That was a few years before my time.

As was a South Forty member or two leaving the Bearcat basketball team's bus high-centered outside Riley Gym during a snowstorm in that era ...

Yeah, 1967, freshman recruited by Willamette who offered a scholarship package. Package did not include some medical addition.
Player decided on LINFIELD who included $$ for health.
Willamette bean counter noticed the discrepancy. NWC reps met without LINFIELD's knowledge and without a chance to make the discrepancy correct.
Sanctions against all LINFIELD sports was imposed. Football league championship taken away. No athlete was allowed to be champ or particpate in District tourneys even if they were the best in the country.

Thanks, D.O.C. - I had plenty of reasons for distaste for Willamette but it never hurts to have another. I'll add that to the list, and to the summary of the rivalry.

I'm sure the NWC's response had nothing to do with Linfield having won four of the last six NWC football titles, four of the last seven men's basketball titles and eight of the last nine baseball titles.

Spotted at the Alaska State High School Semi-finals, Palmer vs Thunder Mtn.

Should have been 55-0 or worse but the 'Cats just flubbed those two plays on defense.  Still very good day down at Willamette. Fowler looks more and more comfortable as we move along and Nnoli is really emerging as the guy.  Farlow is playing like a man possessed this year and looks like a first team all-american, IMO.

Not surprised Fox won but surprised how well their offense performed. Kudos to them and their season so far.  Gonna be an old fashion showdown in two weeks at the 'Catdome.

Ha!  started this right before you posted 11!  Fox learned the formula for beating Whitworth.  Kolste completed a high percentage but the YAC was minimal and the RATS had little running attack.  As we learned last week, the Whitworth D was mediocre at best.  I think Fox runs into a different animal in 2 weeks.  The read option is going to get stuffed early and Shroder is going to have to see if he can beat the CATS via the pass.  Biggest question is how the CATS offense stacks up against the GF defense which has been pretty solid.  Tune up for both teams this week however.  Fun game to watch yesterday though!  (except for the CATS kick coverage......ugh).
Go Cats!

Sometimes I like to live in a world where the following happened during the UMHB game a few weeks ago:

- We don't overthrow our WR in the end zone where no one was within 10 yards of him on our first possession. That was 7 points lost and a huge boost to start off the game.
- We don't blow an assignment on UMHB's first possession on the read option, where the QB went untouched for 80 yards and a TD. Our D was outstanding other than that miscue. Take those 7 points away.
- We don't give up a 95 yard kickoff return for a TD to start the 2nd half which seemed to take the air out of the Catdome. Take those 7 points away.

Using the math above, it's a 10-10 game with likely an epic OT.

Anyway, that's the world I find myself living in sometimes, especially w/ how well our D played.

I know, "if ifs and buts were candy and nuts......"  :-\

At any rate, Go 'Cats! And if we stay focused and make the playoffs, it will be interesting to see whether the committee sends us to Peru or Brazil. I heard they are at a stalemate right now regarding this.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Hey Foss - welcome back.

Peru or Brazil   ;D
