"Redlands' staff would cream their shorts to get a QB as talented as Smith.  Kid will be an A-A by the time his career is finished." WC11

"That's a strong, somewhat triggered response but ok. Question for you: Linfield has a lot of talented quarterbacks in their program. Is there a QB on their roster who has more time in the program and offensive system who has worked hard and done everything right who just got passed over for the head coaches kid?" RFB

Bringing this response to you WC11 from the game updates forum. I really am curious if "daddy ball" has just happened at Linfield?

I'm unaware of any QBs lurking in the background that got passed over..... Wyatt Smith is a solid and gifted young QB who was the MVP of the Oregon Shriners All-Star game. He earned his way to the starting role at this point, and I'm glad as heck he's on the team and got the chance he did.

RFB

Not doubting his abilities as a QB. I've seen daddy ball at its worst, was just curious. Potential QB's might pass on Linfield when they learn the head coaches kid is the starter.

Wyatt Earp would be playing even if he wasn't the coach's son. Law an order is back!!!

But but but....what about the conspiracy theory?
Surely some sort of foulness must be afoot! (And stop calling me Shirley)

I certainly liked what I saw yesterday from young Wyatt.  It appears Linfield's future for the next three years is really bright.  I recall before the season started WC11 predicted that we have a boat load of talent in the Freshman class  (maybe the best in history) and when they get an opportunity to show their stuff it will be something to watch.  Well yesterday I believe that prediction came true as UPS was focused on  JD Laswell and company and along came Freshman receivers that kept catching balls thrown their way.  It was truly a sight to behold as it was Freshman to Freshman time and time again.  Watch out d3 football fans, when these boys are Seniors this team could be one of the best in history!
LEAVE NO DOUBT

Man, it's nice to see a 300 yard passing game appear again.  :)

I know UPS isn't PLU or GF, but we had as many passing yards this game as we did total O in the last two games combined. It's great to see some young guys get legit opportunities to make catches because our QB can get them the ball.

Coach would start that freakin' Willamette kicker chick's kid at QB if he chose Linfield, and was good enough to earn the job. He's just trying to win games w/ the best players.

D's numbers are starting to get crazy. Allowing just over 10 points/game (7 against #1 UMHB were on a kickoff return, and I could be missing others).

A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

0 rushing TD's allowed in NWC play through 6 games. The 'Cats defense will get an excellent test against the NWC's top rushing team in Pacific.

Thank-you RFB for fulfilling my prophecy when asked if I thought Wyatt should get the nod and I mentioned political fallout.
We're still a team. We have guys who can come in if #12 gets the flu.

We have to win an away game next Saturday in who knows what weather conditions, Then we have to sit back and see what the judges throw us.

We will be a worthy opponent for whatever team we wind up playing. Those opponents will be playing a tradition and a program, not just a team.

(Must have been desertcat1 that got me to 3000.)

Just sitting out in my backyard with a book and the new sundown time when that play that was wrongly called a Smith fumble rolled through my brain.
How about that 'CAT defense stopping the UPS guy after the 80+ run?
Angles and guts!

How about our RB catching up to the guy and making it only an 80 yard run? :)
Go Cats!

Freshman RB Dawson Ruhl making that play happen.
