I talked a bit about it in the game preview but the turnover ratio played out on Saturday and was critical. Linfield was a +11 and HSU -1 coming into today and Linfield came out ahead 4 to 1.

I was in the locker room pregame and counted 15 freshman on the playoff roster. Just a great mix between our vets and skillful youth.

D O.C.

Just sleep well tonight knowing many of us consider you a skillful youth.  ;D

Congrats Cats....best game of the season.  It appears we are peaking just at the right time!

Right you are 64. What a great game.

The 4 to 1 was key to dominating field position which was HSU's Challenge from the get go especially against a talented physical defense. Our field position set up the offense and they took proper advantage.

Yup...this team is hitting their stride.

What was amazing is that Linfield was down both starting corners today and Farlow went out early in the first and we still whipped em.  Their coaches had their towel out again trying to block offensive signals.  I hate to break it to the HSU staff but it's not picking signals but preparation by Linfield's staff that have locked up that offense two years in a row.
The towels were hiding their faces they were embarrassed for calling a double reverse screen pass on the first play of game.

I guess Ric Flair* giving them a shout-out wasn't enough inspiration for the boys from Abilene.  Congrats to the 'Cats - see you (again) for Thanksgiving leftovers!

What's nice is we didn't play the "perfect" game, and there is still room for improvement, which we will need against UMHB.

- We had 10 penalties - can definitely improve on that and if we have double digit penalties against UMHB it will be a long day.

- I thought we had 2 turnovers (2 lost fumbles)? Or was it only 1 fumble?

- Gave up a 70+ yard punt return, otherwise we hold the Cowboys to single digits. Remember how UMHB's kickoff return for a TD changed the entire game in the 2nd half? We can't give up a score on special teams vs. the Crusaders again, especially in their house. We simply can't afford to.

Yet, all this and we were still up 24-0 at one point against a Top 5 team. Awesome performance.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Have we ever seen a #8 take down a #1, not as far back as I can see. The offense is really coming alive and the defense is a salty as ever.  I'd love to see us pull off upset #2 next week. Go Wildcats.

Well, back in 2014 (in the 2nd round - same as we're approaching now) a certain big underdog squad from McMinnville ranked #10 went down to Belton, TX and took it to #2 ranked UMHB. So, that's pretty close.

Let's hope that same certain underdog can once again come back victorious in the 2nd round against a top ranked team from Belton!

I am copying this below from the ASC Board.

However, GHC, if you make to the Stagg Bowl, your performance will be on a par with the 2004 UMHB team.

Here is the update on Top 10 South Region teams since the creation of the Pools system in 1999.

1) 2016 UMHB -- (15-0) Beat UW-Oshkosh 10-7 in the Stagg. Had a good run to Salem beating Redlands, Linfield, Wheaton IL, Mount Union in the CRUthedral.

1) 2)  2004 UMHB -- (13-2) Did it Ginger Rogers style.  (Refers to the old joke, who was the better dancer...Fred Astaire or Ginger Rogers?  Rogers did everything that Astaire did, backwards and in high heels.)  Was a Pool C bid, back when there were only 3.  Beat #7 Trinity by 29, #3 HSU by 14, #5 W&J by 36 and #1 Mount Union by 3 on the road.  Lost to Elliott's #2 Linfield in the Stagg, 21-28.
UMHB was #8 at the end of the 2004 regular season.

Desert!

Spotted you yesterday and shouted you out. Sorry I didn't get to say hello. Looking dapper as ever in the black hat. Yesterday was an amazing day to be a wildcat.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

I also talked to Scott W yesterday. His mustache is beautiful and he was very gracious. No fur coat, but he was wearing white jeans.

Does anyone know what his plans are? I could see him being a minister in a mega church?  ... He'd probably hire DTrain for cow bell in the choir for $289,000 per year.  ;D

That's awesome that he came down. I don't think he was working in a official capacity either. Like I said, he's a good man and the NWC will be worse off without him in the coaching ranks.
