It's the beginning of the end

The coaches have lost the team and the program is almost unrecognizable

Fire everyone. Start from scratch. It's the only solution

It's comical to me, Rat. People have been bitching and moaning about our offense for two years and they absolutely ball out of their minds and finally bail out the defense, who have been spectacular for two seasons and all you get is more bellyaching.

I think the "bitching and moaning" yesterday was really more about the unsportsmanlike penalties which not only hurt the team but hurts the brand. We are going to have some years where everything just doesn't click but that is not an excuse for undisciplined play resulting in the penalties.

Well I didn't go to Willamette so you assume correctly...

I've been reading the boards from 2006 and 2007......  my favorite quote (around page 976 for those who are interested) is "Joe Smith is messing up the legacy"...  I'm pretty sure there was a call to "fire coach smith" after one of the losses to Whitworth (2006 0r 2007) but I couldn't find that one....anyway---our bitching and moaning this week is not that bad (or no worse than it typically is in a down year).   ;D

Yeah....2 NWC losses in almost the last 10 years.  He really screwed it up. ::)

Coming into Saturday, Linfield had 5 personal fouls on the year and 4 unsportsmanlike penalities (2 for excessive celebration after TD's) on the whole season.   I know reaction right after the game is hot but Saturday was an aberation on the personal fouls as it was for the points allowed by the defense.

D O.C.

Yeah MCat, I remember those "hothead" posts.
I'm happy.

my point exactly--
Go Cats!

For reasons I do not comprehend, this year's team was a disappointment.    No more, no less.

I may disagree with Coach Smith, usually on some play calling during a game.    But, I support him 100%.    Look at his results for 13 years!     Phenomenal --- even by Linfield's long time high standards.

Next year.

I'll fully agree that the end result of this team is disappointing no matter what happens.  The standard is high (as it should be) but not winning a conference title was bound to happen (Whitworth earned it).  My hope the program is able to regroup, adjust, and get back into national title conversation sooner rather than later.  The conference is getting more competitive with us and that's ultimately a good thing. Iron sharpens iron.

That's the truth.  SJU had it's way with the MIAC for ages.  Now, we have to deal with St. Glenn and his Tommies.  While I hate them and despise losing to them, it elevates both programs.  Bethel looks to be moving up again, too.

It'll be a good thing for Linfield.

Agreed.    I remember the 1980s and 1990s when most years it was a big battle between LC and PLU.     Whoever won that game usually was a big contender for a national title.     Look at their records.    I really miss PLU being as tough as they were.

Then we also had a very tough region, Willamette, Southern Oregon, Central Washington, Western Oregon, Western Washington all had tough, tough programs.    Even Oregon Tech (Klamath Falls) beat us two years in a row, not long after our 1986 National Title.    The conference and region was so tough then.

Hopefully, the NWC will keep rising to that level.     I would love to have the NW conference have a series playing the Wisconsin or Minnesota conferences and we hold our own, like 4-4, or better 5-3.

It would be awesome but probably cost-prohibitive for most schools.

I wish the naysayers would quit whining like spoiled children. Linfield though not as great looking as past teams that we Townies have witnessed its still the best college football team in Oregon(in my humble opinion). Now I have to get ready for game 9 talk to you kids next year. GO CATS!!!!!

Are you talking about Joe Cain and Nate Lewis OIT teams?  I had Joe Cain sign my little league hat at a Klamath Falls Falcons (American Legion) baseball game.  Was damn near the coolest thing that had ever happened to 10-year old me.
