Congrats Whitworth.  Go give 'em hell.

'Cats looked like a damn steamroller yesterday but kicking the can early in the season cost us this year. Sucks but just reconfirms the lesson that you have to win the auto bid every single time.

good luck Rats.  Round 2 seems doable.  509, you still in Texas?

How do you figure? They get a very easy Rd 1 matchup, but then go on the Rd to the #3 ranked team in the country. To one of the most difficult road venues in D3. If they win, they go on the road to a purple power.

The committee did Whitworth no favors. Brockport on the other hand? If the new normal is keeping things as 'regional' as possible, then the #1 seed in the East will have their typical milquetoast road to the semi's while the rest of the regions duke it out.

I think the thought is that in recent years, NWC champ has gotten Hardin Simmons in Round 1 and MHB in round 2---so starting with Claremont and then seeing somebody other than MHB in round 2 is pretty darn good.   S

That I definitely agree with. CMS will be a nice postseason tune up. And SJU is really good, but I'd definitely rather have them in Rd 2 than UMHB

And you just answered your own question. No offense to St. John's (because they are better than and will more than likely will beat Whitworth if they play), but getting CMS first and dodging UMHB in round 2 is as favorable a draw as they were gonna get.

I figure l would rather get Claremont 1st round not HS first round and if set up like last year for NWC UMHB in 2nd round.  I think HS would beat Whitworth but no way do l see Claremont getting Whitworth. So on to second round more then likely St. John's.  If you think that's a tough venue try Belton for a second round trip.
Eventually you have to play top teams if you keep winning and l feel Whitworth odds much better starting with Claremont.

Oh...I think Whitworth would beat HSU. The Cowboys are not a good matchup for the top of the NWC. They are just super basic with their schemes and they get away with it against everyone not named UMHB because they can't out athlete them. The Rats, like Linfield has the past two years, would make their head spin.

To me HSU is over valued and they get a free pass because of UMHB.

I think you guys are forgetting what you got as an undefeated NWC team.  I don't think they would have sent Linfield to Mary Hardin-Baylor in the 2nd round if they didn't have that loss on the resume.  2015, 2013 and 2012 Linfield got two home games before facing the other top team in that 8 team pod.

As a Linfield fan, it seems strange the 'Cats aren't in the playoffs. Great program with an obvious winning tradition. I will still proudly wear my Linfield sweatshirt (compliments of Mr. And Mrs. Coco), even around the Mount Union campus. Hope Whitworth can represent the NWC well. I bet Linfield will be back next year. If I'm still around, I'll look forward to following them. Hey, something about teams with purple in their colors. 😃
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

Yes, it is strange and shocking that Linfield is out.    But, their play this year was erratic, especially in those first 3 games.   That last game was the only true Linfield game.    Yet, my feeling is they could now beat at least 1/3 of the playoff teams.

Whitworth is for real.     They, like Linfield so many times, have a VERY tough playoff schedule.   St. John's and M H-B are tougher than any other two teams in rounds 2 and 3.    No playoff favors at all for the NWC.

I am rooting for you, Pirates.
   Make us proud.

Just want to shout out Wyatt Smith's play over the last 6 weeks.  After starting off a rough 2018, Smith finished his last six games going 111 for 168 (66%) for an avg of 254.5 yards and throwing 14 TD's to 3 picks.

It really depends on the regional rankings. An undefeated Whitworth that won the NWC in 2006 got to play St. John's at home in the second round. If this year's team had been ranked higher than St. John's then I would imagine they too would have gotten a second round home game. In the last decade Linfield has had one more 2nd round away game than home. It's not as if the NWC champ getting sent to Belton, MSP, somewhere in WI for the second round is abnormal.
