"Best receiver in Oregon" the past few years was a bit much. That kid from Tigard is on scholarship at Notre Dame, for example.

He was one of the best in Oregon maybe not big enough but he's fiesty... and he's proved it this year... get the ball near him on stride and its...... GONE!

Looks like WR is fixed, now just need a running game
Less than two more years of Gavin.

But, he was their #1 recruit though. Are you sure it wasn't that he was raised under the roof of the Linfield coach, his brother plays there, and tuition is free because you're a Linfield College employee?  There is nothing wrong with having your boys play for you and kicking ass which they are doing, but his quotes reek of trying to gloss over daddy ball.

Rcb,

Your lucky it's Halloween and I'm in a treating mood. ::)

I have three dogs in this fight. Are you sure you want to go there? :P

YES ,
How about some papa ball ?  :-*

The cats have a long tradition of daddy ball. (Ad, Ed, Doug, and others) I know it's hard for you to understand tradition being from dog land. ;D :'(

'One of the best' may be; and to be making an impact as a Frosh is very impressive. But "the best receiver in Oregon the past couple years" is biased, subjective overhype. With all apologies to desertcat1, that's definitely an eyeroller and totally pointless. The objective evidence (however imperfect) of the best receiver in the state would include 1st team all-state selections and recruiting rankings. Were Oregon and Notre Dame fighting over him?

Daddy ball is a scourge. I see it every weekend watching my daughter play AAU basketball.

Oh man, I hear ya. Some parent coaches in AAU-type competitive youth sports are WAY over the top. It can make for an ugly scene.

But the 'daddy ball' at Linfield (and PLU previously) is not even remotely similar. I was with you on calling out the eyeroll worthy hype, but I can't go much further. I don't see the comment as an attempt to gloss over some ugly 'scourge' of a situation.

bluenote

They are having a hard time finding refs for sports all across the nation.... mainly because of unruly parents that go ballistic .....

Can we all agree that Lewis and Clark being named a "big test" was eye rolling regardless of where you stand on the other stuff?

L&C, yes.
Hyping the kids: yet to be seen.
desertcat1 has a point in that during THE STREAK there have been 5 coaches. Paul Durham had his son, Terry, at Qb, Ad Rutschman's his sons Don and Ron playing for him,  Ed Langsdorf his son Danny at Qb, and now the Smiths.
Tradition and legacy.

I wonder if parents of other Linfield QB's or WR's would agree with you.

I see your point, but many of those parents would have their own bias about their little Johnny. I think the position coaches and non-involved players would be a better gauge of whether any inappropriate/pressured playing time or featuring decisions are being made.

Unless he was misquoted, we've seen one clear example.

Agree on personal bias regarding your own children. Here is a better question. Is Nathan Martinez a better QB than Wyatt Smith, and where on the depth chart would he be if he played for Linfield?
