I've been thinking about the game vs Chapman. Wow that was actually EPIC. Linfield battled back many times and so did Chapman. So many "what ifs" for both teams. It's like one of those games like when we played Whitewater in 2005.... we came out on the short stick both times... but we learn from it!  On a good note we have a hell of a team coming back.... WOW Can't wait!

Both Chapman and Redlands also have solid guys coming back. Be interesting where all three fit in the first D3 poll next year. If Chapman can win a few more games they could get a top ten nod. All three should debut top 25. Wouldn't be surprised if all three lined up one after another.

LF has good line, running back and QB coming back.    Need to replace 4 VERY good graduating receivers though.   We sure missed 2 of them at Chapman.    And our defense needs some shoring up.    Whitworh and Chapman exposed some weakness.

And yes, Redlands and Chapman are now on a parity with Linfield.    Whitworth also.    George Fox is coming on, too.     This is all good.    The West Coast needs to be able to compete with top 10 powers, year in and year out.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends on this board. That includes not only Wildcats, but everyone associated with the NWC.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Observations about 2019 Linfield season:
•   2018 (7 wins) and 2019(8 wins) had the lowest number of Wins since 2008.
•   Rushing yards were lowest since 2005, but improved as the year progressed.
•   Passing yards was best since 2005.
•   Wyatt Smith had a phenomenal 69.6% passing completion rate, highest since Brett Elliott in 2005.
•   Smith's 5.4 (TD:Interception) ratio was the best since 2005.
•   His efficiency rating was outstanding at 177.4, best since 2005.
•   In my opinion, the five key receivers this year were the best since 2004.

Overall, a good season, but also disappointing.    We might have gone further.

MUC57, for two decades, I have wanted to see a Linfield-Mount Union game, but it never seems to happen.      It will take one of our best teams to beat you, though.    So few ever do!

A Mount Union - Linfield game would be great. It'll happen. These are two good programs that are destined to meet. I hope it happens pretty soon. (see signature below).

MUC57,
If it doesn't happen soon, we could both not be able to go.      I started going to Linfield games in 1984, when my son was a junior there.   So, I am probably as old or older than you.   I missed two games this year due to illness.
Hope you do well in the playoffs.    Of course, you will.

I'll be 84 in January. I know I'm one of the "old guys" on the boards. The 57 in MUC57 is the year I graduated from Mount Union.
As I often say, "I'll be around for a while just to pi$$ people off.
Good luck to The Wildcats next year. I look forward to meeting you at the Mount Union. - Linfield game. Hope it's in Alliance.

You have me beat.   I am closer to 78 than 77.    Yes, I would like to visit a Mount Union game, before I can't travel.    I may just come back next fall, since it just seems The Wildcats and Raiders are not meant to meet.

Comparing Linfield's 2019 year to prior teams.

*  Points per game - 48.3 is close to the great teams of 2015, 2013, 2005 and 2004.

*  Passing yards of 379 per game was exceeded only by the 2005 team.

*  I thought all year these receivers were exceptional.     The top two, Weiss and Smith, combined for 179.8 yards per game, exceeded only by those great receivers of 2004 and 2005, Allen, Carter and Hazenberg,

*  Our rushing yards this year were disappointing, like the great teams of 2004 and 2005.   But, that was because all three teams had such phenomenal passing attacks.

*  Our best defensive teams were 2014, 2015 and 2017.   They allowed only 13.2, 12.8 and 12.1 points per game.   Those three teams also only allowed 237, 237 and 244 yards per game.    This year the yards given up was 301 per game, the highest since 2012.   21.0 points allowed was the highest since 2009.

Again, 2019 was a very good team, but two games with costly mistakes prevented them from advancing and maybe being a great team.

If we can find good receivers next year, 2020 could be even better than this year.

Congrats to the 2019 team, a fine and successful year!

78Red isn't?
I came away impressed with the size of the Johnnie defensive backs. Line backers seemed to be lean and mean.
Writing on the wall Panthers not turning 3 turnovers in 1st quarter into more than 3 points.

Agreed.     St. Johns defense was far better than anything on the west coast.
Chapman 37  Whitworth 30
Linfield 31   Whitworth 31
Chapman 48   Linfield 48 (end of regulation)
All defenses gave me too many points.

St. Johns 55   Chapman 26
Mary Hardin-Baylor 43   Redlands 14
Neither winner gave up as many points.

To compete with The Top 10 national powers, the west coast teams need MUCH better defenses.

Redlands and Chapman are recruiting the same base as LINFIELD if you look at the rosters.

UR loves to go after NW kids who want to get out of the rain. Washington has always been our second best feeder state behind the Liberal state of CA.
Next stop for UR should be AZ now that the JCs have dropped football. Our back up QB was from AZ JC . It is doable drive for parents to come see the games. Kids are used to the heat too.
