From reading some of the feature articles, it sounds like a lot of the teams still standing have several D-1 transfers on their team. Could that be the secret of a deep playoff run in these times???

Paging Brett Elliott. But yes, most quality Division III teams -- regardless of sport -- have people with Division I talent. Some of them began their career at Division I and some did not.

You're right on that Pat... Linfield also had a great halfback transfer from OSU Riley Jenkins. I think he caught the game winning pass out of the backfield.... WOW What memories! I'm glad I can remember back almost 15 years.... LOL!

Riley Jenkins was a stud. He is the best Linfield running back I've ever watched. Simon Lamson is a close second and Thomas Ford is up there as well. If I remember correctly, Riley Jenkins had another year of eligibility, but decided to graduate and move on. Linfield sure could have used him against Whitewater the next year.
indeed--Cats inability to run out the clock in 2005 was the deciding factor...

.... Those were all great running backs.... Linfield has had several over the years including Gary McGarvie. Spencer Payne and David Russell, etc.

David Russell in 2002 was the very best running back at Linfield since I started watching them in 1984.     Gary McGarvie 10 years earlier was electric!     Russell was fast, big and very strong.     He was our backup for 2½ years.    But, when he had his chance, WOW!

Rushing yards - single season.
  1. 1541 - David Russell (250-1541) - 2002
  2. 1322 - Gary McGarvie (193-1322) - 1992
  3. 1237 - Ad Rutschman (180-1237) - 1953
  4. 1219 - Steve Beguin (195-1219) - 1961
  5. 1152 - Thomas Ford (199-1152) - 2003
  6. 1133 - Spencer Payne (171-1133) - 2015
  7. 1127 - Ad Rutschman (174-1127) - 1952
  8. 1098 - Ed Griffin (206-1098) - 1967
  9. 1054 - Bill Dressel (191-1054) - 1961
10. 1051 - Chidubem Nnoli (202-1051) - 2017
11. 1029 - Leo Sloan (152-1029) - 1978
12. 945 - Chidubem Nnoli (168-945) - 2018
13. 942 - Josh Hill (194-942) - 2011
14. 926 - Ad Rutschman (162-926) - 1951
15. 907 - Drake Conti (152-907) - 1975
16. 873 - Joey Rector (162-873) - 1995
17. 872 - Marty Williams (177-872) - 2001
18. 852 - Aaron Williams (192-852) - 2009
19. 836 - Jim Good (177-836) - 1993
20. 822 - Carl Haberberger (167-822) - 1998
21. 812 - Shannon Sells (141-812) - 1992   (a quarterback!)
22. 775 - Drake Conti (167-775) - 1976
23. 761 - Riley Jenkins (165-761) - 2004
24. 749 - Simon Lamson (121-749) - 2010
25. 742 - Shaun Aguano (141-742) - 1991

Notice who was #3, #7 and #14.    The greatest career rusher at Linfield ever!   He was #1 for 39 years!     And, of course, he did a pretty good coaching job, also.

How did I forget David Russell. I'm slipping in my old age  ;D

How about I start a flame war:

Andy Collins > Brett Elliott

Fight me!

D O.C.

There he is at #8 on that list
1098 - Ed Griffin (206-1098) - 1967

High School All-American in basketball
Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys
All-NWC in football and basketball.
Coached 2 Connecticut Boys Basketball titles
AND I still can't get him accepted into the LINFIELD Sports Hall of Fame

Elliott 2-0
Collins 0-2

Put a mobile Andy Collins on those Linfield teams and you still win in 2004 and REPEAT in 2005.

Point taken and contemplated, RFB.
There was that Beiber freshman guy though.....

The Cats is crazy, crazy, crazy oooh!

(By the way, I'm really disappointed (as I know you are as well) that Linfield didn't beat Chapman in R1.  The R2 board games would have been spectacular.  Next year, hopefully, if the Johnnies can hold on post Erdmann.)

Well there will be a shakeup in the final poll with #1, #2 and #3 all out of the playoff picture before we get to the semifinals.  On any given day, top tier teams can upset the pollsters!
