Head Coaches matter...just look how far Willamette has fallen since Speckman left and now PLU.

Not to mention Oxy down south. :'(

PLU wanted to move away from the Westering legacy, hired outside the PLU family, and now look like nothing of what once was a proud and successful football program.  If the PLU AD's goal was for UPS to dominate the Tacoma Rivalry, then missional accomplished.

BTW...PLU's uniform look is abysmal.

Coming soon to Redlands, CA.

Naw....they kept it in-house so the chance of the Bulldogs maintaining or growing the previous levels of culture and success are stronger than if they went with an outside hire.

Pure speculation but I would think Maynard knew Good was his exit plan years ago but just pulled the trigger a few years earlier than he liked.

Its was damage control, capital projects (new facility) is on hold. If there would have been a season this year, the plan was for ex players and families to go to the first game to support Maynard, guys were making plans to come in from out of town. My guess is there would have been a record crowd at Ted Runner, home side of 4500 would have been full. North of 5k at the game.
Football players have been some the best donors. Hunsaker who built several of the new buildings and donated millions played football.

Oregon Fans, since your proactive leaders are allow high school football, will that change things for small college football?

Hey NWC friends. My wife and I have a delta companion pass we need to use and she has Oregon and the Pacific NW top of her list. We don't want a big city trip. Something relaxing, views, hikes, breweries are all a bonus. We have places like Bend, Astoria, etc as options. I'd also love recs for the coastal region as well. Probably a 5 day type trip.

Any recommendations?

Fun! Hood River sounds up your alley as well, with Multnomah Falls and the Gorge as unique PNW features. Pretty easy to tack on to either a Bend trip or a visit to the coast.

Hitting Bend and Astoria is doable, but a bit of a haul. Both are great and a good match for what you are seeking.

Thanks D-Train,

Looks like we've settled on hitting up the water falls, staying in Hood River, swinging down through Bend for a bit, then coming back through Willamette National Forest on our way back up to Portland for the flight home.

Any recs on Wineries or good restaurants/ hidden gems in Hood River, Bend (Deschutes is already on the list), Willamette that we should put on our list?

If you're going to go to the coast, then I would suggest Cannon Beach over Seaside or others.  Slower pace, can easily walk to any shopping/food stuff (Bruce's Candy Kitchen is a must). Haystack Rock and other nearby beaches (Hug Point) are excellent.

Hood River: pFriem Brewery is cool, Double Mountain is a classic (with great food). Decent wine tasting in town.

Between Hood River and Bend: check out Smith Rock for a short hike. Also worth a look is the new Rooftop bar (at SCP?) in downtown Redmond.

In Bend, there are several in addition to Deschutes. 10 Barrel is solid.

Willamette Valley Vineyards would be a nice established stop, but there are several gems if you take the road from Salem to McMinnville and then towards PDX from there (like Stoller and Sokol Blosser).

D O.C.

I was with Widcat11 in an Astoria south to Lincoln City, ducking in to any little State Park, then NE back to Portland through McMinnville.
Two great trips!

Thanks All ... appreciate the suggestions. One quick question (not trying to be political). Is the expectation in Oregon right now that we'd have to wear masks outdoors we well, e.g. on hikes in State and National Parks or on beaches? it appears that way from literature I'm reading on Oregon state gov sites, but thought I ping the 'boots on the ground' for confirmation and live intel.
