I hope LF wins big against SF. It may not "count" in the NCAA power rankings but will say a lot about top tier D3 football.

We'll see.  I think SFU getting manhandled by Idaho was the worst thing that could have happened for Linfield.  The 'Cats would get pasted by the Vandals too.

What I have seen in camp over this past month I do believe this could be a strong Linfield team but the young offensive skill guys, who have a high ceiling, are going to have to prove it.

I have always felt the big difference in D3 to D2 was upfront, for upper tier D3 programs. That will be the most interesting part of the match.

Since we're the Northwest Conference, the proper terms to use when talking about games within our group is conference, not league.  To me, the term league has two meaning; you're either talking about the NFL, and if you're not talking about the NFL, then you're talking about high school leagues.

But your perspective is more macro since you cover all D3 so I can see why those terms are more interchangeable to you.  But I'm with Keith, 100% :)

In Alaska the high schools are in conferences, not leagues. I'm with Pat.

I thought one reason to call them conferences is because they often have some common academic interests.

Conference:

Quote
4: an association of athletic teams
  // a football conference

Division:

Quote
11: a competitive class or category

League:

Quote
b (2): a group of sports teams that regularly play one another
  // the National Football League

So if one were insisting on some tyrannical allegiance to definitions, I guess one would call the NCAA a "league", Division III a "division" and the conferences a "conference".  But I don't think anyone will be jailed over usage so it's probably safe to play around with that a little.

EDIT: As all the divisions within the NCAA don't play each other, I guess that's why they call themselves an association rather than a league.  Let's see.

Association:

Quote
2: an organization of persons having a common interest

Perhaps.
