Week 3 NWC Power Rankings

1. Linfield - Clear number one after non-conference play
2. Whitworth - 3-0 and have 9 picks to their defensive credit
3. Pacific - Still contend they'll be a tough out for Linfield and Whitworth.
4. GFU - Played Chapman down to the wire on the road.  Playing solid defense and showing enough offense to keep games close
5. L&C - Had to feel good to score 66 points in their home opener.  Locey has done a great job at L&C
6. Willamette - Improved over 2019 but still don't have enough dudes
7. UPS - Just blew it against CLU.  The Loggers better hope for a storm of the century when Linfield rolls into town
8. PLU - I know UPS is 0-3 and PLU just won a game but until they start knocking off NWC teams, they'll stay in the basement.

Thanks to Coco and Mrs. Coco, I'm a Linfield fan. They even got me a Linfield sweatshirt which I proudly wear from time to time.
I don't post over here too often but I closely follow the NWC and the Wildcats every week.
I wish you guys the best for the season (uh, until you meet Mount Union). Go 'Cats!

MUC57,

I have been waiting for 2 decades for a Linfield-Mount Union game.   Even though you have to be the big favorite.   No matter where it is, I will be there!

Congrats to our offensive line for their award  "D3football.com Team of the Week":

"OL Taylor Adams, Diego Rodriguez, Bailey Lee, Julien Sears, Matt Metcalf, Linfield
The offensive line played a big role in Linfield's 51-10 win against Redlands. The Wildcats finished with four rushing touchdowns, three pass touchdowns, 6.4 yards per play and 498 yards of total offense."

By the way, where are all the NWC fans?   Hardly anyone is posting this year.

Funny thing---there was a young man wearing mount union gear at the game in Redlands the other night--I suspect he was the sibling of a Linfield player but I'm not sure what his connection to Mt Union was....
Go Cats!

Nice interview, In 2019 LF O line struggled again UR. It was the first time I had seen UR clearly out play LF up front on both sides, our D line alway held up pretty well just way too many short fields by our offense. It looks like LF players were reminded of that issue.
They were ready and we were not, this team has a real chance to do some damage in the tournament.

Somehow I'm sorry to see a football program like Willamette flushed down the drain. Can't really think of a reason why though.

What has happened at Willamette and PLU can easily happen at Linfield with the wrong athletic/university leadership. I'm just gonna enjoy this season for all it's worth.

The irony is at UR they accused the team of being white racist as a reason to get rid of football. I guess it does not matter is half the team is not white.
Given how you can't call a person in the California an illegal alien anymore in CA, how long do you think FB is really going to last in the NW or SCIAC?
We all forget CMS wanted to drop FB, WC is on the ropes. UR and LV not far behind.

I fail to see how this comment is relevant to a post that lamented the losing football being played by Willamette.

There is nothing stopping you from calling immigrants illegal aliens.  In this country you have freedom of speech, even if others consider it disrespectful.

I didn't get a chance to watch this past weekend's game against Pomona (which was probably for the best--I'm not sure why our backup QB started), but at least from the first two games against UPS and Lincoln, Willamette's progress from 2019 to this season is pretty obvious, at least to me.  The defense is light years better.  Recruiting is improving, and there are a couple of freshmen and transfers on both sides of the ball who look really promising.  We have a solid coaching staff in place, even though there was a pretty significant curveball when the DC left to take the head coaching job at Pasadena City College over the summer.  I think everybody involved with the program knows that it's going to be a long road back to being competitive in the NWC, but lots of folks are working very hard to turn this thing around.

I agree that the coaching job is obviously good at Willamette right now, it's just the lack of talent....and that takes time.  It's taken Locey 5-6 years to get L&C to a point of be a much more competitive team.

Linfield obviously overwhelmed UPS.  The funny thing is that Linfield probably feels they didn't play their best football either.

'Cats passing game was surgical and the defense made it miserable for the Loggers.

Looking around the conference, Pacific is going to be in the mix this season for sure.  Fox's offense isn't that great but their defense is strong.  L&C is MUCH improved and Whitworth's win set up the showdown we all expected coming into the season.
