Not having a Cat or a CRU in this fight, here's how I see this one going down. The conclusions are based on the assumptions that both of these teams have good defenses and playmakers on offense. Those are givens.

I think UMHB has an edge in size and speed. Those are pretty big deals.  However, I think the Cats have an edge in QB play and creativity on offense. While both are talented teams, I think they are not built the same.

I believe the key comes down to two things the Cats MUST do to win the game. And they must do both. If they do both they win. If the CRU forces them to do only one or neither, the CRU wins.

1. Linfield must NOT turn the ball over more than ONCE. The CRU feasts on momentum and if they get more than one turnover, they win.
2.  Linfield must stop the run. If they can significantly slow down the CRU's running game, their passing game will not be able to generate enough to overtake what Linfield will do offensively. However, if the CRU gets rolling in the running game, they will soar past the scoring total Linfield will post.

I believe Linfield will score between 17 and 24 points.  I think the CRU will pull up short of that if they can't get the running game going and don't get turnovers.  If the CRU does get their running game going OR if they get turnovers, I think they score just enough to win.  If they do both, they win comfortably.  If they do neither the Cats win by 7-10.

UMHB has always been a run first team. Against both Trinity and BSC, it was a battle in the trenches. Statistics say that it will be tougher against Linfield. Has the young OLine learned from the previous two games? Will the combination of Thomas, Cormier, and Miller be able to overcome the stingy push that Linfield will have? We'll see.

As far as the passing game being able or not to carry the Cru, I do agree that Smith is probably the most complete QB of the three. But our passing offense has been very good this year. We have3 very capable WRs, two very good TEs, and RBs that can catch out of the backfield.

Getting excited. Safe travels to all.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

D O.C.

No turnovers will help us
No penalties will help us.
No punt/k.o. returns for TDs will help us.

Run first? Do not know why The Beast Chauncy didn't have 45 carries in 2009.
Like I say, hoping Fred platoons quarterbacks.

Really nice video and music selection on the SJU highlight real.  I've watched and rewatched the first 1:30...difinitely one of your all-time best.
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

WC11 . . . I was wondering how those shadows were going to ruffle your editing feathers. Shootings into that low sun was next to impossible.
Boy, at the 2:37 mark our WILDCAT got dribbled off the turf after scoring. A frustrated tough Johnnie.
Everyone looks tough in that video.
Great win.

Thanks Cris!  Was holding out on an extended clip for a game like this past Saturday.

D O.C. - The light in the lens made it hard a few times but the angle of the sun actually made for a cool look on the majority of the clips.

I have to ask, Whats your affinity for my alma mater?

It was partly just a dig at Linfield because I know you're rivals, but I played at SJU from '99 - '02 and always respected Frosty's teams.

unfortunately, we are not holding up our end of the rivalry. It was certainly that when I played, '80-'84. The winner of our game made the NAIA National Championship game, 4 out of those 5 years.

Earlier today I was doing a search for Linfield football on google or yahoo or something and one of the things that popped up was "Does PLU have a Football Team?" which I found funny.  Funnier yet was that it was actually something on the PLU website....
Go Cats!

I proudly wore out a PLU football shirt that I bought out there in 2000.  Frosty + John made for some great games.

Since the MIAC is now in the off season I thought posters would enjoy this story about a  Minnesota man's Hamms memorabilia collection. It is impressive.

LF fronts are the best I have seen this year. The second best is NCC...the game is won up front. It humors me to hear anything else, so thanks in advance

Ice Bear says olddog is licking his own ass here and desperately needs to learn some new ****ing tricks.

Ice Bear says great ****ing points made by many previous posters in regards to this discussion. Ice says that was a great football game by two excellent football teams.

I think if the CRU turn it over twice on special teams then the Cats will win and the CRU fans will all talk about how lucky we got!   :o

Great analysis.  Going to be a huge game and as much as I want the Cats to be up by 50 at halftime I'm afraid that's not going to happen and this is going to hopefully be a hard fought win by the Cats and their D!
If the Cru give it up on special teams 2x. none of the faithful will be saying Linfield was lucky.. Linfield has the type of O that can be problematic for the Cru. The short passes to the soft zone is almost always there. It's what HSU feeds on, and where the Cru has given uplots of yards. If Linfield gets extra series because of Special Teams (something the Cru is very good at), it's going to be a poor day for the Cru. The real key for the Cru D will be limiting the yards on those short passes. They have to be quixck to the ball and wrap up.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Jefferson Fritz is an All American who serves as our punter and as a kick returner too.
That is unique!
He was 1st team all ASC as a safety, 2nd team as a punter. My favorite series from the BSC game was UMHB 4th and Long, Fritz calls his number and runs for the 1st. A block in the back moves the ball back to 4th down yardage, but this time its 4th and 4ish. Fritz punts pinning BSC inside the 15. BSC runs one to the middle for no gain. Next play Fritz picks off the pass and returns it to the 13 i think. 2 plays TD UMHB. Fritz makes the solo stop on the ensuing Kick off.
