Simon Fraser AD one month after football was cancelled, hired a consultant to study if they could bring it back, due to outcry by past players. Youth need football more than ever to counter all the Snowflakes in the world.

I mean, boxing and mixed martial arts make for much more brutal sports if you are just looking at it as a way to toughen up, and I'd say 6 minutes of wrestling is absolutely vicious. If you are looking at it from a teamwork perspective, football is no different than any other team sport, except each position is much more limited (individualized) in roll. Rugby or Australian Rules Football are actually probably better alternatives across the board for a combination of toughness, fitness, and teamwork.

Football really isn't exceptional in any way except it's a primarily American sport that we idolize, is played almost exclusively by males, has massive roster sizes, and uses a platooning system rarely seen in any other sport.

I love some football, but let's not get crazy about the benefits.

The rules can go back to one platoon if that would solve problems.

I used to wrestle too in High School, and Club Boxed in collage. I can tell you the most I ever hurt in any sport is getting lit up on blind side block from TE and a knee to the head from a running back breaking up a screen play. Getting punched hurts but I never saw stars like those occasions. My point being is football appeals to the mass, teaches a ton character issues, great opportunity to teach a mass of young men. I love to hire ex football players. They know team work and bitch less in general, when told to suck it up and do their job..they dont melt.

In terms of cardio fitness, I agree in particular.  I believe Aussie Rules is the most cardio demanding sport played in the world.  The orchestration of footy is less on the oval than on the gridiron, however.  Aussie Rules is more akin to ice hockey, IMO, than gridiron with a generalised strategy and specific skills and talents.  Chaos is the name of the the game.

Gridiron, on the other hand, is structured to the extreme and it's rare that an individual talent can introduce chaos ball and dominate, like a Mahomes, rather than cause the whole team to collapse, like every other player that doesn't do his job on every single play.

That being said, Aussie Rules is a sport for the extremely fit and the crazy brave.  Good character building and I recommend it for everyone - boys or girls.

Willamette's full 2023 schedule is out:

https://wubearcats.com/sports/fball/2023-24/schedule

Non-conference games at La Verne, at Lewis & Clark, and at Southern Oregon to begin the season, then a bye and the NWC opener at Linfield.

Yikes.

Why has lewis and clark only had 9 game schedules for so long?

Several other NWC teams only have scheduled 9 games.... some because of budget constraints and others because nobody will play them. One way to get more games is to win the conference and make the playoffs.... then you may get up to 14 or so games.

What do you guys think about ranking the teams this year? I think I can do a decent job but there are always Dark Horses?

Yeah George--their QB is gone and when he wasn't able to play last year, the team wasn't great.  Linfield is returning the QB and a large number of other guys.  Pre-season rankings don't actually have to be based on how things finished last season.
Go Cats!

I'm not really a fan of Willamette's recent trend of scheduling conference opponents as non-conference games, and I miss the semi-annual visits from MIAC, WIAC, and ASC programs that we used to get. But it looks like Willamette, L&C, Pacific, and George Fox have all agreed to schedule non-conference games against each other through 2026:

(I will admit that the idea of making it a mini tournament is kind of fun.)

Any guesses on who's gonna win it in 2026?
