Ticker,

Here's a couple of options:

The NWC posts a composite schedule:

http://www.nwcsports.com/sports/football/2005CompSched.pdf

I don't see much on the 24th, but on the 1st the Loggers of Puget Sound host the Willamette Bearcats. That'll be about 45 minutes south of Seattle.

If you are there thru the 8th, check out the cross-town rivalry between Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound. Also (in the D-2 ranks) Central and Western Washington lock horns that night at Qwest field in Seattle (home of the Seahawks). They tend to have closely fought battles.

News-Register Article on Former Linfield Standout
[/b]

A nice article on 4x All-NWC Linfield Tight-End (1999-2002) Luke Buchheit.  After stepping down as the head coach of 2A Regis High School, Buchheit was approached to take an assistant job at his former high school, (4a) McMinnville High.  Anybody that knows Luke can tell you about his passion for football and love of Linfield.

Excerpts:

---(McMinnville High School head Coach, Greg McAnally) says "We're real fortunate to have him. He had a lot of job opportunities at other schools and he could easily be at Linfield coaching right now. We're real excited to have him on our staff, not only for football, but I think he's going to do a great job in the weight room(teaching)."

--- "I'm going to be the enthusiast," (Buchheit) said. "I want to be that guy that gets the community fired up about the McMinnville football program, No. 1, and the McMinnville strength and conditioning program, No. 2. I want to get the kids and the community excited about that awesome facility that I never really got to use. That's kind of where I see my place.

---"One thing we like is to get Linfield players to come over into our system," McAnally said. "We believe anybody that's been involved in the Linfield program it's like having two or three years of coaching experience. He brings all of his Regis experience and he brings a lot of Linfield knowledge...."

Well, if nothing else, you could see a real good game at Qwest field (you don't work after 6pm on a Sat. do you?). If you can make it south to Tacoma, that PLU-UPS game should be very good. PLU has won the match-up for as long as I can remember. But UPS has gotten much, much better (and the Lutes are still 'rebuilding'). Last year's game was settled in the second overtime. This year should be very competitive as well, with the Loggers as strong as ever and very motivated.

Great post about ol Bucheit, he's a great guy and I'm sure that he will help people get excited about high school football in McMinnville.  Good to see the cats in the coaching world!  Any word from other camps besides Linfield's???
Savage Storm is on the move in the Lone Star Conference!

Actually there are words from every camp besides Linfield.  All 230 of them.

Just check out the front page...

 Pat and crew, nice job on the kick off o5, well worth the bucks, Many of us out west, speaking for myself atleast don't know all that much about some of these east south  etc, teams. This will be very helpful to follow the season across the nation.  THANKS! Let the games begin. "GO CATS"
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

I am all for bringing OAS to the NW again.   I have to figure out if I am going to make the drive.  Maybe I can hitch a ride with GHC?
GO FOR TWO

Cats, Johnnies, Both of the West, Still the Best

Two Elliotts, two Stagg Bowl titles, St. John's and Linfield, go West;
The Willamette Valley, McMinnville, the CatDome, the Wildcats will not jest!

No, fun the games may be, the team from Oregon will be aiming to return to the crest;
The national championship as a repeat, trying to keep the West Region as the best.

Three years away for Mount, many more for the squads from the South and East;
Elliott, Allen, Donaldson and other Cats want to ensure the West partakes in the feast.

Shortly before Christmas in Salem, the celebration of walking off the field, the ultimate treat;
Winners again, holding the Division III trophy high, possibly a Gagliardi Trophy at the qb's feet.

Blocking along the way may be La Crosse, Oxy, Wartburg, St. Norbert, putting on the heat;
Running and throwing through any such blocks will be the team that in `03 was never beat.

Returning to Collegeville for the fall of now, husking the Cobbers along way, no repeat!
Wanting to win the MIAC, the West Region and the Stagg, the Johnnies will be the heat.

Burning down the field, crashing through fifteen teams, carrying away the gold, the season complete.
Keeping the crown in the West, many teams dream of making the Johnnies compete.

`04, teams did make SJU less than complete, three by five points, no post-season, no repeat;
That was before, this is now, goals high, winning the MIAC, the West, the Stagg and no defeats.

Remembering that the road to Salem this year travels through Linfield, winning will be no easy feat;
Two respectful foes, one with a record of 3-0, the Johnnies know who they must beat.

To the teams and the fans in the West - you are the best!

Any news on Jenkins?  Is there still hope or is he out of the picture?

OK, OK,
thought you Linfield fans might find this interesting.

I finally watched the whole highlight DVD yesterday. The first two times, I fell asleep after the PLU game (but I put it on as I got into bed, so take that for what it is)

Anyway, a couple observations I came away with:

1) Brett Elliott ... waayy too modest on the tape. Nice of him, of course, to mention the offensive line and the defensive play in the Stagg Bowl. But then again, what are you gonna say? "That's right sucka! I threw 61 TD passes. Count 'em! 1, 2, 3 ..."

2) Can I get a yards after the catch stat for Linfield? Insane how many of those plays on the DVD -- perhaps carefully selected -- are WRs taking 10-yard slants, breaking tackles, spinning or juking their guys and going all the way. As a former DB, I'm personally disappointed :) ... seriously, I knew the guys were fast, but see they're strong too, I guess. Watching it, seeing a ton of #8 and #3 (Allen and Hazenberg, as you know) and a few George Carter highlights and thinking ... where is the fourth guy? Then of course, all through the playoffs is highlights of McKechnie using some poor defender. Ah.

3) A couple times, I forgot it was a highlight DVD. I'm so used to watching and reading stuff looking for balance, I found myself wanting to see some of the UMHB plays I recalled from the Stagg Bowl. Pretty much though, the rest of the games there were only Linfield highlights, so those were probably fair depictions. :)

4) If you're a conference rival, yes you can throw up now. I apologize for the gushing post. If it can't be my own alma mater, I'd be happy to see another ODAC team to win it all, for our conference, and I'm sure you feel the same way for your NWC brethren. But if I had to watch an Emory & Henry highlight video from back when I played, I just might  ... well, how to put this nicely? (censors self)

Thanks K-MACK!!!!

BTW, did you see that Linfield's very own Brett Elliott is a nominee for the annual Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award?

Click for article

me thinks that USC's Matt Leinart may have the leg up but it's a pretty sweet deal to even be nominated!!!!
