The cover story on D3.com today is a major bummer, very sad.

I have mixed feelings about all this playing in the heat and so forth. It would just seem in today's world after the Korey Stringer incident and numerous high school incidents that the football world could put an end to these deaths.

Very sad. I feel for the player's family, friends, teammates, coaches, and the university as a whole.

Congrats to Elliot! Only non-D1 player to be nominated for the most prestigious award a collgege qb can win? That is awesome- great pub for him. Now, where is that Heisman Campaign!
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

WOUfan,

I think that you have many good things to say but knocking on the streak and the NWC isn't one of them.  Of course, I don't like it becasue I'm a Linfield/NWC backer but here we are with a piece of college football history that is owned right in the very state of Oregon and here you are trying to take it down a peg.

You rant about how Oregonians are lazy, not proud, don't think outside, etc, etc, but you don't seem to mind tearing at the foundation of a great legacy that thousands of Oregonians help build.  That's kind of funny to me but not in the "ha ha" kind of way.

WC11:
Your kicking game should be fine. Dailey has looked awesome in practice so far...strong leg and accurate. Don't know about the pressure factor?? Also getting outstanding reports regarding some Freshman OL and DL recruits.

Just heard the NCAA is backing off the new rule for team names, FSU called their bluff...... Pat any news?
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

OAS.....don't start it!   ;D

There will be no players in my line-up when they play the 'Cats.  I don't want that player to give me bad numbers when the Linfield Defense slaps them down.

So don't go looking for Clark or Snell to be playing the week the 'Cats go to the Pinebowl and there will be no way that Lee (my 3rd string back) will be in the line-up when UPS comes to the 'Catdome.

BTW, looking at your line-up.......I knew that you were still a Johnnie lover!!!!!!

onearmedscot

2 Johnnies, 2 Cats and a Johnnie D.  Pretty even I'd say!!

Picked up Concordia Moorhead QB Brian Schumacher (Mr. Irrelevent) today as my AFLAC insurance policy on Elliott!!

According to the Linfield write up in Kickoff 2005, the Stagg Bowl MVP Riley Jenkins who is eligible to come back for one final season has experienced an off-season leg injury.  Any word if his leg is going to be well enough for him to come back before the end of the season?
LEAVE NO DOUBT

catback4

Give Jenkins a break 6 years in school is a lot! How bout we just think of him for the great game he had in the stagg, and quit wondering if he's gonna come back.  You can't miss all fall camp and a bunch of  games during the season and be ready for playoffs  Linfield is just fine at RB, let those guys battle out for the job and the cream will rise to the top.  I really feel that Mordechai, Lasswell, Cruickshank, and Johnny Anderson will get it done this year.  It's not like they are gonna run the ball 35 times a game anyway.  You've got the best receivers in the land at this level and one of the best QB's at any level so do the math...My condolences to the player's family who passed away.  Anytime you lose a team mate like that it has got to be the toughest thing in the world.  Good luck to you guys this season and give it your all for your fallen team mate...

Foss

catback4, You know Haze and his abilities well. Where he will play seems to be an interesting development. Do you want to see him play only DB or WR? I agree that him playing one or the other and not both (along w/ returning kicks) is a good idea, especially given how things have gone for him late in the season. It's not like we are short on talent and need one guy to do everything, yet his talent IS special. With all the great WRs, it seems the team would best be served with him filling the open corner spot. But at the same time, it's hard not seeing him get opportunites on offense at WR. Maybe some of this will depend on how comfortable the coaches are with guys like Armstrong or whoever potentially playing DB, but until then: only O or D for Haze?
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

catback4

Man Foss you asked the question of the year so far for Cat fans!  If you remember 2001 Haze came to Linfield as a CB, and only since his return in 2003 has he been playing receiver.  If you ask me I think that the Cats would benefit more if Haze played mostly offense and gave some spot duty at CB.  You know in games where teams are gonna throw the ball quite a bit or have a couple of stud WR's.  Haze is just such an explosive threat when he gets the ball that it would be foolish to have him play mostly defense.  I really believe that the competition for that other CB spot will produce a very good player at that position.  I just feel like it would be tough on my good friends body to go both ways for the whole year.  Of course there could be plenty of games where the starters only play until the 3rd quarter so it's really tough to say.  If anyone could do it, it would be Haze but I just want him to stay healthy so he can be the amazing athlete he is.  When guys are as great as he is it is easy to see when they are wearing down.

Senior Linfield wide receiver and coach of the "little kids team," Brad McKechnie, does "The Ort," imitating teammate Josh Ort's celebration dance, after one of his receivers makes an amazing play
[/b]

---"Our players are like that," said Linfield assistant coach Tramaine Payne. "Our guys are gym rats and they like being out here with the kids. They have fun with competition, whether it's like what we have out here or if it's like what we'll face in a couple of weeks. They just enjoy it and love to play."

---"There's nothing better than working with kids," McKechnie said. "It's what I did all summer working for the community center. But you really can't call it work. You go out there and have fun."

---"It's more coach Locey's philosophy of trying to make our guys be a part of the community," Payne said. "Our players, on their own, helped out with the Thanksgiving deal and they've been real avid about getting out in the community and helping with kids."
