RFB,

You have stated that Redlands changes up their schedule every two years.  Well, both of their two year series with Whitworth and Trinity are up this year.  I know that Linfield needs a game(s) and will probably (or have) called Redlands looking for a game.  We'll see if Redlands will accept another go around with the 'Cats.

Regardless, I do respect the fact that Redlands is one of the very few SCIAC schools in the past with the stones to step up but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

Thanks for the report twoducks.  If the foundation is solid, and I think it is, the tweaking (we're not rebuilding!?!) process will be brief.  As long as they improve every week and remain true to the spirit of the program, I'm a happy alum.

WOU,

What's the mood like in Boise right now?  They shoud have beaten the beavs but their coach made some bad decisions.  I love the way BSU plays.  They play like Linfield, very aggresive and crisp, and expecting to win, but, Hawkins needs to know when to take points, ecspecially on the road.

L & Clark's whole deal right now just sucks.  Hope the Cat's can represent the NWC and cover up the Pios situation by rollin again.

Lewis & Clark really let the NWC down.

Shane, people are pretty down here ... Boise is like Eugene in that it's a good-sized community that treats its football team like the pros. People are over-zealous, still blaming Zabransky. It's stupid.

I was at the game and told a friend: "Hawkins should take the points, he did this two years ago in Corvallis and lost by three or so because he didn't take the points. On the road, take the points."

They'll be OK, they have a tough Wednesday night game in a week vs. Bowling Green in Boise.

* Agree with Linfield Beancounter in some aspects. While D3 independent might work for SOU, EOU, and WOU, they really need a state-school D3 league to make it work. If OIT had football and CWU and WWU played D3 it would work.

Where it really doesn't work is in the other sports. One needs to fill out complete volleyball, men's and women's hoop schedules and play for regional and national berths. WOU's best options are to either go NAIA independent in football and play in the Cascade Conference for other sports (my suggestion); or build up D2 with approrpriate fund raising (which I endorse; I don't believe they will do that).

If Chico, Sonoma, and OIT had football, that would certainly help things.

I understand the NWC's stance here. With the rising cost of tuition, it's a pretty big advantage for state schools in athletics ... or it should be. The Wisconsin schools have a nice state-school D3 conference. But they have enough schools to make it work. Again, the problem isn't as much football as it is the other sports. And having dual classification -- like EOU did a few years ago -- just messes up everything.

I think EOU, SOU, and WOU should huddle and try and find out what they can do TOGETHER to benefit everyone. But our arrogant administration won't even listen to its alums, so they're not going to listen to EOU and SOU.

Nice story on Central in Around the Region...Hopefully they run the table and the Cats take care of business.  I'd love to see them in McMinnville in November for a little payback! :o

Haven't heard anything 'bout scheduling a Humbolt State or Western Washington for future non-leaguers. the 'cats can definetly play with those guys. Or should I say their capable of playing with us.

As for the pios playing FB next year. Would they be any more suited to field a team next year.

WC11,

I am all for Redlands and Linfield signing another two year contract. According to Pirat it looks like Redlands and Whitworth have renewed for another two years. I believe that playing the best brings out the best in a football program. Redlands could easily go Oxy's rout and schedule cream puffs, but I know Coach Maynard does not like to go that rout.

If budgeting allows it I would like to see Linfield and Mt. Union schedule each other, now that would be something to see. Linfield is as high as it gets for a DIII football program, why not schedule elite programs and create some real fireworks.

The L&C decision is going to create additional scheduling problems for not only this year, but years to come. Although not confirmed, the last we heard the 'Cats were talking with a Texas school, and that was just to get an 8th game! Where are we going to get a 9th? Are we going to have to give Portland State a frickin' jingle? I hope we can get a game with a SCIAC school or this is going to really stink. If not, will it be yet another game against a scholarship school? Linfield will play Mt. Union sometime in the playoffs, it is bound to happen, probably in the very near future so I don't think we have to worry about never playing them. If we have to resort to playing yet another D2 or NAIA school to get a 9th game, we might as well go for broke and try and get the game everyone is interested in seeing.

Ring.....Ring.....Ring....."Hello, this is Carroll College in Montana, you must be from Oregon. The caller ID says 503, isn't that one of your area codes?"
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

I'd like to see an SJU/Linfield or SJU/PLU non-conference game, that's for sure.  It'd be so much better than Crown or Northwestern!  And Foss told me he'd foot the bill for flying me out there for it!

I believe Pacific U. will add football. I've seen the plan and it's impressive. The goal is fall of 2006; I'd say in reality fall of 2007.

The plan has received strong endorsements and I believe with a new A.D. and fairly new president (from EOU) in there, Pacific U. will bring football back. The plan is to play the first few seasons at Hillsboro Stadium until the on-campus facility is finished. There's already land ready for the on-campus facility. If you read the plan, you'd see that they are moving forward and it is not a pipedream.

I'd guess that George Fox isn't near adding it, and L & C will shut down football after this year.  >:(

Man sounds like the Cats did just what I thought they would against WOU!  Talked to some guys from the Cats and they sound like they have a heck of a game plan for the ol' Pointers.  I didn't realize that L&C was going to cut out their NWC games!  That seems pretty dumb if you ask me, why would they play their non conference games instead???  It's not like they had anymore of a chance against those teams!  I don't see how they are at greater risk of injury, football is a violent game and there is always a chance for injuries, I think that L&C should just do a little more to attract players to come there.  For example, they should make it a little easier for student athletes to get into their college...I mean they aren't an ivy-league school for pete's sake!
Savage Storm is on the move in the Lone Star Conference!

catback4

Does anyone have a scoop on the Linfield Rushing game???  I know they didn't run the ball all that much, but from what was shown was our OL able to push the pile?  I think that it will be key for the Cats to have a stable ground game against the Pointers.  Got to keep them honest, I know that the Cats have able backs, but there has got to running plays called for them to do any work.  If anyone can tell me about how it looked against WOU that would be great!

Lewis & Clark admissions stats ... they are very vague about GPA minimums and such, but scroll down and you'll see the average admittee. It's pretty tough to get in:
