Seems to me that unless the Cobbers have seriously retooled their defense from last year, that they are not going to have any answer to Elliot to Allen (or the rest of the Linfield receiving corp for that matter).  I doubt that Concordia-Moorhead has seen a passing attack like Linfield's this year.  The pressure will be on the 'Cat running defense to step up, and if I were a betting man, I'd say that they will.

'Cats will roll . . . and if you please, by a bigger margin than 42   :D

prediction:  'Cats 54 - Cobbers 7

If you guys score 54 on the Cobbers, I'll buy at the Elks Next Friday!

According to the Fargo, N.D. newspaper today the Cobbers are putting together a "Fan Bus" to travel to the Catdome.
The bus leaves at 2:00 on Thursday and costs about $200 per person.....that could be one long bus ride home!!!

We should probably try to connect with someone at Concordia and invite them to stop by the Tailgate area to "meet and greet" the Cat faithful.....they could probably use a little Northwest cheer after sitting that long on a bus.

Wildcat, that shows real class.  Good on ya.

Er... just make sure none of those grills have any roast corn on them...   ;)

My parents aer gonna be on the bus, and I know that they are going to be going stir crazy after the long ride, and that they and the rest of the Cobber faithful would love to mingle with the Wildcat backers.

With all the shots that get taken at eachother this week, it is good to remember that both institutions are high class and will be represented as such.

M&G-
All Cobbers are invited to the tailgate. Just look for the flagpole with the PurpleFlag about 5 blocks south of the Catdome......we usually get started about 8am.

I laughed out loud with Cobbernation took Locey too seriously.    What did he expect Locey to say, that Concordia was so bad they could get beat by the Duniway Middle School 8th graders??

Now, now, now...I work at Duniway Middle School, and even though we went 0 for the season this year. When asked about our team...Coach Locey had this to say, "Well, you know, it is tough sometimes. There are some real good athletes out there, and a bounce here or there, and your team might have gone undefeated." Always the class act. WE WERE AWFUL.

Anyway, I am new on this as a poster, but read it often. Teams don't run against us because we cover our assignments and we tackle very well. Our guys are very disciplined, and Coach Smith is a absolute magician with what he does to get this defense ready for games. In the end, it won't matter because Linfield will score on its first four possessions and the game will be out of hand. Also, as for 4.4 speed, I am not sure that would be in the top 5 on the field this weekend.

Cats in a romp...Benzel gets more playing time
Cats - 49
Cobbers - 14

"Phone It In!"

Does Duniway expect to win with a tennis player coaching their defense? ;D

I think the cobber fans need to save some energy for Saturday. All of this huffing and puffing may cause them to pass out.

A common cobber line of reasoning seems to be, "We were untoppable vs SJU. Except the times they stopped us. We won a playoff game last year and should have won a 2nd. Until we lost at home to Oxy."

I think Concordia will be a good team- better than any we have played. But I am not convinced of anything beyond that.

No one is going to pass out here.  If someone said we were unstoppable vs. St. Johns, they're full of it.  And the playoff game last year was winnable for us, but it didn't happen.  Thats all there is to it.  It would have been nice to get a crack at Linfield last year, but we didn't get it chance.

You guys have all the reasons in the world to think you'll destroy us this weekend.  But you will have a tougher time getting to the Stagg bowl this year, not just because of a tough West Region, but because you have a big fat bullseye on your back.  And I'm sure Coach Locey has addressed that several times, but all I'm saying is that in my opinion, and if history has taught us anything, the second time around is always harder than the first...so maybe tone down the swagger a little bit -  ;)

Oh yeah, I was just talking about one fan in particular. I think it could be an exciting game Saturday. And you are right, repeating will be harder.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Could go like this.  CC hangs onto the ball 38 to 40 minutes with 7 to 9 minute drives.  The Cobs are somehow able to stop the Homerun balls to Haze and Casey..instead the Cats take 5 or 6 minutes to score.  Do the math.  Cobs 30..Cats 28.   Stopping the bombs is the obvious challenge which I doubt will happen this week.  With quick strikes it's Goodnight Irene..the party's over.

I'd like to apologize for degrading the mighty Dragons of Duniway Middle School.

Let's look at the bright side.  You brought in a new poster who would not have posted unless he felt a need to defend the good name of Duniway Middle School.  Without your post would that have happened?

I gave you your first (?/only) karmalize for your information.

AND for your bravery to come onto the board and write about Lewis and Clark during the National Playoffs.

I couldn't agree with you more K. THe Cobbs need to keep everything in front of them. Now obviously that is easier said than done, especially against the Cats, but nothing is impossible.

Remember these are still 19-22 year old kids playing out there, who knows what could happen.

News-Register Game Article on Linfield vs. Oxy

Excerpts:

---"We knew going into the game that I just had to give our receivers a chance," (Brett) Elliott said. "Their defense backs were a weak spot and our receivers are a strength, so we liked that matchup. My job is to get them the ball as soon as possible and let them do what they do best."

---"Defensively we were going to mix it up," said Occidental coach Dave Widolff. "Sometimes we were going to pressure, sometimes we were going to drop eight or drop nine and not let him know what we were doing."

---"I was real happy with the way we had prepared all week long and then the way we played," said Linfield coach Jay Locey. "We came to play."

NOTES: Elliott said he has decided to play in the Hula Bowl and was hopeful that Locey would be making the trip to Hawaii, as well. The winning coach of the Stagg Bowl gets to serve as an assistant coach at the game. ... Allen returned to his winning ways at the Friday night Mario Party video game contest after temporarily relinquishing his title to Jared Thomas.

If it were only that simple. The bomb is an aspect, but Allen scored on a 78 yard screen pass last game.

It's not just the bombs.  Casey's long score was a quick 10-yard strike over the middle and then the rest was all after-burners.  They might be able to take away the deep ball but can they stop the run after catch?  Maybe one of them, but both...?
