My personal opinion on the AQ...I think it should be changed to PQ...as in Preferred Qualified...Pool A
Criteria:
Conference Champions
Must win last two regular season games
No more than two losses over regular season

Just my opinion.

What about some sort of re-alignment to juggle the conferences so they will all have AQ's?  I've only been a Cat fan since 1997 so maybe it was different at one point but the NWC has always been one team short. Menlo's joining us (which seems a stretch geographically speaking) so now we'll have a AQ but maybe if the conferences were all juggled a bit, there would be no pool As, Bs, and Cs.

I just watched the 2003 SJU/Bethel game last night, which is a part of a 2 DVD set including the Mount Union game, so it is possible to obtain the rights and make a copy.  The Mount Union game is the ESPN2 coverage with the ESPN2 announcers (I prefer the SJU radio guys, but oh well).  I don't think I paid quite $30 for the 2 DVD set.  It is a great thing to have!  Great idea to do this generally.  I don't know if SJU would have done it had it not been for all of the other special things surrounding the 2003 season.

Linfield put out a nice DVD of the Championship season but not of the game itself.  I kept asking the bookstore if they were going to do it and they thought it was a great idea but it never happened.

Too bad, that was a great game.

I generally agree with having AQ's because it gives the weaker conferences something to shoot for and possibliy improve (look at the SCIAC and how they would have 10-0 teams stay home and now they have had as least some playoff success).

Anyway, the DII model actually isn't too bad.  They take the top 6 teams from each region except if a team from a conference that doesn't have a team in the top 6 finishes at least 10th in the rankings, that conference gets a bid.

In other words, if we would have a regional top 15 instead of 10 or something and take the top 8 unless a conference has a team 9-12 and no team in the top 8.  Obviously there are down sides to this too, but a 7-3 conference champ probably won't get in that way, unless they played a killer schedule.

Okay, since my wife is bugging me to get out the door, here's my official prediction:

Linfield 49, Concordia 17.  One of those CM TDs will be in garbage time.

Since the wife is now watching the cast of Seinfeld on Regis, I'm going to add something.

I checked CM's passing defense, and they allowed 2232 yards in the air. Keep in mind, that coming into the game, OXY held opponents to 1903 yards in the air--a good 300 fewer yards than CM.

Linfield has had 3315 yard passing and we torched OXY for 525.  I'm tempted to change my prediction to 56-17 but I'll stick with the 49.

Okay, maybe it's the turkey talking but I'm going to officially revise my prediction. I'm feeling very confident in our DBs ability in single coverage against their WRs (although they apparently do have one kid who runs a 4.4 forty-yard dash) and in our ability to stop the run.

New prediction: Linfield 56, Concordia 10.

T minus 12 hours and 30 minutes

Here's hoping all NWC fans had a very good Thanksgiving.  A few inches of snow here in Minny this morning, but I doubt that will be the case at the Catdome.  Cobbs took to the air about 7:30 this morning.

Tomorrow is finally saturday.

Go Cobbs!!

'Cats Fa Natic,

The title of the article is:  Cobbers Face Big Time QB....if you go to www.in-formum.com and then go to the Search button at the top of the page and put in Linfield (last 30 days) you will see this article along with all the other ones they have run on the Cats.  The Cats have actually received quite a bit of press in their newspaper.

Noticed in today's Portland catbox-liner that another "D1 reject" backup QB is looking to transfer for his senior season...maybe the Cats should take a run at Wazzu backup Josh Swogger  ;)

Just kidding. I'm actually a big time Tim Benzel fan and think folks will be surprised next year.

Saturday Pick:

Cats - 48
Corncobs - 21

Maroon and Gold.....I thought the Concordia party came out here yesterday, leaving Fargo early in the morning Thursday.

Cat fa natic....invest in a digital recorder (like TiVo, which is a service and another post I suppose).   I've watched portions of the Stagg Bowl more than 100 times in the last year.    Digital quality beats a videotape.  And the price of these machines, like all electronics, is coming down.

Dr. Sparky, I agree, Tim Benzel is one of the best In the NWC and D3, Just had to play behind the best QB in the country! We will not drop off much next yr. as others think. TG!

Coco, do you need help with your new-to-you purple awning?  ;Dlol. Bring your friend to the elks tonight @ 7, He, she, they can meet us before we put our game faces on. ;D

Topcat 1< don't be late tonight, you have a 15 yd. penalty from last weeks no show. ;)

Pdawg, missed you on here these past couple of weeks, my boy said  he talked to you, thanks for the kind words, being missed can be a good thing. Guide him well!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

D O.C.

Can anyone confirm the Concordia bus made it out there OK?

Dr. Sparky,
Where did you see the article about "D-1 QB transfer" that you found in the cat box liner?  Who, where is he currently playing?

Tuxguy,

I am planning on going to the Elks club a week from tonight and bringing a friend from Reno, making his first ever trip to Mac to see the Cats play.  My concern is that though I have no trouble with alcohol, or drugs I do admit to being in a 12 step wild women recovery program. When someone mentioned lap dances there I could just see myself falling off the recovery wagon. I'm covered for lap dances for my next 3 lifetimes.  May I ask you to blindfold me when I walk in and I think I'll be fine. :P  To help me see no evil I'm best off blindfolded.  My other senses are not likely to fail me.

Can my friend from Reno get in without a D3 football.com message board handle?

Wasn't it amazing how good Steve Young was once he finally
came out from behind Joe Montana.

I so enjoyed having Thankgiving dinner being a turkey sandwich while we flew to Oregon.  I hope it happens again soon.  ;)

Coco: Have a cold brewsky and a sandwich on a stick for me.  :P

Okay, great.  Thanks!  Very interesting article.  What jumped out at me was that line, "Elliott's talent has led scouts from almost every NFL team to decend on McMinnville this year." I knew the Bills had sent a scout to watch him at the Willamette game but I didn't know scouts from the other teams had also made appearances.

With all the attention being paid to Elliot, has any one heard if Casey Allen is getting any looks?  He certainly has the prototypical size and speed.  And pretty good hands.  Maybe the butter-fingered Seahawks should have a look in case they lose Jerivicous (sp?) to injury... ;)

My father-in-law is a former player from way back and he has a number of friends & contacts in the coaching staff. He told me just yesterday that a lot of the coaches are really pretty high on Tim and feel very confident in his abilities.
